One Direction matured a lot in the span of their career. With their latest album everything that was always good about them is back and better than ever. Their powerful choruses are obviously the highlight and basically every song has that kind of strength to it. What I like the most is how surprisingly hard the album hits, these songs are very well done and the way they’ve grown musically is very fun to watch. It might not be an album for everyone, but I really enjoyed listening to it and I’ll definitely come back to it more.
Cloud Nothings have got the indie-punk style down perfectly. The standouts here are the honest and meticulously crafted lyrics which paint amazing stories and capture emotions well. The music itself is pretty rock oriented which isn’t really something I usually venture into, and admittedly the vocals can reach a tad too much at times but its actually a really exhilerating listen and it has some very memorable songs.
For their debut, Sylvan Esso really made a compelling effort combining suave electro-pop melodies with an almost indie poppy-jazz type vocal. The songs are really addicting and feel very passionate. I think these two have the capabilities to become majorly successful since their album is very pop-friendly without sacrificing any quality at all. Its a really fun listen and the songs both lyrically and sonically are very memorable.
1D looks so out of place though. But I can't deny, it was a fun album!
Right so I've decided instead of having one tie to fit BLUE in I'm just going to take out an album. Basically, Hozier - Hozier was going to appear but its gone now. I still like it but reviewing everything its not really that strong to justify its position.
And this is why i shouldn't make these kinds of lists.. i go back and forth all the time
My sister loves 1D to death, so I (involuntarily) heard some of the new album and it was better than expected. As for Sylvan Esso, I only know "Coffee" but I've been meaning to check out the album.
Your favorite track is "Wolf"? That's like my second least favorite. (Not that I don't like it)
I actually don't really have a favourite really. I feel like all the songs are great but they're all on the same-ish level for me.

27 A: Sturgill Simpson A:Metamodern Sounds In Country Music
I was so bad at listening to country this year that I haven’t even heard Miranda Lambert. However I heard some good things about Sturgill and decided to check his album out on word that it was very out-there and out of the box. Indeed it really is, the lyrics are brilliant and poetic and talk of spirituality and generally strange topics for country music to cover. His vocals are deep and have just the right amount of edge to them calling back to some of country music’s classical greats.
This one is about as ~indie as I get. A totally random discovery, this is probably the only full instrumental album to ever captivate me in this way. The name Romantic Works is so warranted since the album is filled with lush, beautiful instrumentals that bring out a fantastical feeling. Everything is so brilliantly arranged that you see yourself, visually, in the music (if that makes any sense whatsoever). Its a really big surprise for me and I wasn’t even sure if I should include it, but I can’t deny its power.
J. Cole is the most recent addition to my list and the highest of the hip hop albums I heard. His storytelling is phenomonal. He simply has a strong way with words that allows you to fully immerse yourself into his music. I guess I have little to say about this one since it is still a recent release but I definitely see myself coming back to it in 2015.
I should start with an embarrassing disclaimer - despite this awesome band being arguably the most famous music act to come from my hometown, I only knew of them since last year. That being said I now love and appreciate all of their music and Brill Bruisers is no exception. I suppose i’m not as qualified to talk about how it measures up with their previous albums but I thought that everything I love about them - their melodies, their lyrics, etc - is here and in full-form. Its a great album to check out if you’re interested and I think it’s very easy to get into.
As for Sylvan Esso, I only know "Coffee" but I've been meaning to check out the album.
