I don't think that's the issue, Gabegabe. A good complementary example is "Take Me to Church" by Hozier, which we were discussing earlier. It contains alternative rock elements, but ultimately leans toward a pop song.

But part of the issue is those songs were played on Pop radio. Had Pop radio not played them many people wouldn't know those songs and they wouldn't have an issue with their genre.

When you listen to "Cool Kids" or "Ain't It Fun" after listening to this stuff, you can see there's quite a difference (structurally and sonically).

I just don't want what happened last year to happen this year, when a bunch of pop-oriented music found it's way into the other categories and swept. Pop is a tougher category because of all the competition, but things need to be done right.

That's a good point, Michael. I'm trying to be more diligent about getting stuff into the right genre this year. But it's tough, because I'm not familiar with all of the music, especially in the rock categories!

On that note: Last year, the longlists were only comprised of the top submissions for each category. Some members didn't like that, so I might change it this year. Do you all think I should include every album/song/artist submitted to a category instead, or should I just keep the same longlists process?
