Celeb News: Lana: "I'm not selling the record"

Lana del Rey is the one behind all her leaked music. Inside sources claim that they saw her restless in the middle of the night, typing away on her macbook, presumably sending snippets to irrelevant Tumblr accounts, all with varying monikers using the word "Pu$$y." Further claims have been varified, such as her quietly chanting "**** my label, I don't care about the money."
A true artist, and queen of leaks.
Heard it here fist.

By promoting you're drawing ATTENTION, she wants the music to draw the attention itself, i don't think it's that hard to grasp.
I love you but you're just embarrassing yourself now

Eh, but can you see how the bolded parts are contradictory itself?
Her saying she doesn't care about promoting isn't the same as saying she doesn't care about her art. Words into her mouth, right?
I can see where she is coming from. This girl obviously has a passion for her music, and if you cant see that then you are being the dense one here (sorry, but if you can be blunt, so can I.) This lady has more self-written songs online right now than other established pop girls have in their discographies written by other people. She plays a huge role in all of her videography and even shows concern when it comes to the sound and production of her music.
So what -- she doesn't care about promotion. She just wants to do what she likes -- write songs. When Gags said she didn't care for the money, but is dying for the art instead, everyone praised her for being such a martyr (Lily Allen reference, couldn't resist) but now that a girl who had an entitles childhood does it, it is braggy for different reasons? Seems biased to meeeeee.

The bottom line is that an artist wants their art to be seen. A singer wants their songs to be heard. I find it odd that
fans of an artist can be so blasé about an artist who states, "I don't care." Guess what? No success = no more art.
This is a business, after all. Guess naïveté is bliss, kids.

Not a Lana fan but at the end of the day its an artists prerogative how much effort they put into the promotional side of things. There's the art, then there's the commerce. Many artists don't really care much for the business side of things its more about the creative process.
That said, when people have invested in you I think it wouldnt hurt to make a bit of an effort. Record companies expect you to do some promotion when they sign you. Isn't that part of the deal when you sign to a big record company? It is somewhat selfish. But whatever.

But she's right.
When an artist makes a song, they sell it to the record label who in turn sell it and give them a percentage of the revenues (like 8%) on top of the fee they paid at the beginning.

I don't know why you are being a condescending dick about it though?
Okay, so, I wanted to get a feel for who you actually liked on this site (there is a lot of negative talk you do, not that there is anything bad about it, I just had to go back a few pages before I saw an inkling of a positive comment) and found that you like Kesha! At least I think you do, but certainly more than you like Lady Gaga I see (I agree, but that is off the point.)
I digress -- the one singer I see that you talk fondly of is the prodigal example of living free, dying young, and doing whatever you want. Kesha is the exemplar "naivete" role model. Drinks, drugs, boots and boys, she says do it and **** it all.
Not sure why you condemn people here for their own naivete in regars a singer who doesn't care about promotion, while you support and condone listening to a singer who readily supports a naive approach to life itself - in a very good way, mind you. Kesha is awesome.
You are right; ignorance is bliss. I think it is ironic however that you think Lana not wanting to promote is earth-shattering and her fans, like yours truly, are sheeple, blind to her evil and hack ways, while it is okay for you to subscribe to Kesha's vastly corporate, top 40, pop-radio regime.

Except that everything after "Dark Paradise" was pretty redundant and bleak. There was no purpose in continuing her musical journey beyond that point.

At the end of the day, Lana is an alternative artist and they don't need nor want promo.
You don't see Arctic Monkeys promoting their new album and it's still selling really good WW.

Yes but ideally you work together to get those sales. Its a joint effort thats mutually beneficial.
Plus most artists actually enjoy performing their music. Its not like hard work.

Well that was rude. Calm down, kid.
Take a walk. We'll continue the conversation later when you've cooled off.
