Top 21 Albums Of 2008
12. Jazmine Sullivan - Fearless
A girl with a deep raspy voice and a nice tone. The album sounds like everything that Alicia Keys' "As I Am" wanted to be. The instrumental arrangements in songs like "My Foolish Heart" "Live a lie" reminded me alot of The Roots style - which is always a plus. My faveyy are "Bust Your Windows", especially after the 1:40 min, "Need U Bad", "After The Hurricane", the electro-dance "Dream Big" is the type of song you'd hear in a commercial and right after it ends you go crazy looking for that song online. She's going far and she's getting the recognition already!
11. Stefanie Heinzmann - Masterplan
This Swiss bitch is the next best thing and I predict a bright future for her. She's soulful, lyricist and just insanely cool. The extremely catchy "My Man Is A Mean Man" is the first song that introduced me to her. The album is a combination of funk pop, jazz with catchy hooks and gratifying melodies. Her style is very similar to Joss Stone. "Can't Get You Out Of My System", "Masterplan" are immediately excellent, her soulful part shines through ballads like "Don't Call This Love" and "Painfully Easy". I also loved the retro vibe in songs like "If I Don't Love You Now" and "Only So Much Oil In The Ground". I can't wait to see her breakthrough.
10. Coldplay - Viva La Vida Or Death And all His Friends
I loved it. They are experimental, adventurous and their music feels like a fresh breath of air. It certainly dethroned "X&Y" to me. "Viva La Vida", "Violet Hills" are instant classics, "Lost!" and "Lovers in Japan" are among the highlights, "Yes" is weird in a terrific way and it ends perfectly with the mellow "Death And All His Friends". Excellent effort from an unstoppable band.
09. Kid Rock - Rock N Roll Jesus
It's an October 2007 release but I only had the chance to listen earlier this year. I've always despised Kid Rock and his music but this album is a goddamn exception. A tribute to some of the best in Classic Rock with a slight country twist. The sound and the theme are very familiar and there's lots of samples used but who cares when the results are great? The highlights..the catchy "All Summer Long", the outstanding ballad "Roll On" and you can add "So Hott", "Sugar" and "When You Love Someone" to the list. Overall, every single song is enjoyable. Great concept. Great execution. Many people should get over their hate to this ****er and give this album a damn listen. It's that good.
