In 2009 and 2010, Gaga was the main reason people tuned in. In 2011, she was one of the main reasones people watched the show, along with Beyoncé and Adele.
2012 flopped because of how the non-factors outweighed the actual stars. I mean, what other big star attended that year aside from Rihanna and Katy?
She was a part of the resurgence of the 2013 VMAs but not the main draw. People were excited to see JT, Miley, Katy, Kanye, etc.
