To reply to your question:
Actually many users ask for a temporary ban when they know have too many points (9) and a few will expire in a few days. So they prefer to ask for a ban of a few days till some points expire rather than staying on ATRL and posting replies that will give them more points., eventually causing them to be banned for 30 days.
However, this is not longer allowed.
