The companions to The Road could also hurt it quite a bit. But I would be here for it. 
Hell, they could just make it Winter on its own and that would be enough to win an Academy Award or two.

The season changes in the game could make it really unique though. If they followed the story of the game perfectly and don't change anything it could easily win. It just needs the right actors.

Hopefully the Uncharted movie is officially canned, because zombies and post apocolyptia is in. And they can just use Troy Baker, provided he gain muscle. For Ellie, well, they can use their original choice and bring Ellen Page in.

I still want the Uncharted movie tho. I know it could smash also.
True that post apocalyptic stuff is in though and I would want the movie to educate people about the best video game of all time. Troy Baker kind of looks like Joel, so I guess that could work, and Ellen would definitely agree.

IGN released its Game of the Year!
It also got Best Overall Sound, Graphics (Technology, but not Art Direction), and Overall Action-Adventure game. It also SWEEPED the PS3 categories (Overall, Sound, Graphics, Story, Multiplayer.. pretty much anything it qualified for with the PS3 categories).

It's over now. IGN just did the KO punch to GTA V and confirmed that there is not a single doubt that The Last of Us is the Game of the Year for 2013. The moment has finally come.

The last of us is the best game I ever played. The story and the characters are so well done it. Very touching and you feel part of the story, I don't know. Piece of art.
GTA V is a pretty nice game too, very complete and gave me a lot of fun too.
I think they are too different to compare, but The Last of Us, really deserves to be the game of the year.
It's almost like a "movie" game.

I am truly stunned, I thought GTA V would have at least stood somewhat of a chance against TLOU because of its massive hype, sales, budget, being on multiple platforms, being from an established series, etc. The Last of Us just utterly destroyed it with over 200 awards and most of the major publications. Remarkable for a new IP, released on 1 platform, less sales, less hype, and a far lower budget. I guess quality wins though if done right. The reviewers and publications did not forget the impact that this masterpiece had on them. Although there are still a few more awards to come in, 95% of them are done at this point. Congrats Naughty Dog for your second Game of the Year award after Uncharted 2!
