Have not seen the 1st episode yet but I'm planning to watch it tomorrow. Is it good? I know it starts in the woods with the lead guy getting a 2 second handjob.
I think I liked it, but it's maybe a bit too reality driven and not enough entertainment factor. It didn't feel like enough happened or the story was being driven anywhere.
Fortunately, Patrick is a relatable and likeable enough central character to carry the show. More of him and less of the others, who weren't particularly interesting. Dom has potential though. The cast feels a bit monotonous and older than the twenty something thing that they seem to be going for. It felt like there needed to be more colourful support characters - if you want an ensemble cast, they should really be differentiable and individually bringing something to the story arc so their purpose is clear. I get that they're not aiming to tick every box like QAF, but Girls managed to do the whole 'off-beat hyper-realism with a group of friends' thing whilst delivering 4 different girls who brought their own flavour to the mix.
Pilots are tough though, and you often shouldn't judge a show by them.

But they aren't trying to make them look younger, while talking to OUT, a producer said that Patrick is 29 and Dom 39, i don't remember how older is Agustin but he wasn't on his 20's.

They have plenty of time to do this though. Even Girls didn't start out with such a strong ensemble from the get-go. I think the characters they've introduced so far have been pretty solid for a pilot episode.
Patrick is the perfect balance of awkward and earnest which makes him an easily lovable main character. While I quite like Dom, I didn't feel anything for Agustin and his partner, and unfortunately I think I'm going to grow tired of their inevitable relationship dramas. It was a bit slow at times but good first episode nonetheless. Can't wait to see where it goes
Just finished watching the pilot. It was good not great but it looks promising. They could bring it a lil closer down to earth though i mean what are the odds of any us being chatted up whilst travelling via public transport. Patrick isnt even camp enough to have registered a bleep on anyone's gaydar. That was one lousy date btw. I can happily say i've never had one that bad before.

That was probably one of my few issues with the episode actually. That "chance" bus meeting was the farthest of reaching. Gays in SF can be friendly but not that friendly. It was approaching Girls-level of "reality".
yeah, I don't think this will be anywhere near as successful as Girls in terms of awards. Lena Dunham became the critical and awards darling because of the unusual nature of the show and her role as writer, director and creator of the show. This has just started though so we'll see.

Hopefully they dial it down as the season progresses. Like someone said earlier, pilots are difficult to mould right.
