I always though of Ellie as a sweet and nicer, simpler, version of Grimes (who I hate by the way). All of my friends love Lights but I never got into the song, but I decided to giver her first album a listen and I was amazed, beautiful songs such as Starry Eyed and The Writer caught me. When she returned with God Could Happen she made me excited of her second effort, Halcyon. I was a little disappointed with the album, although My Blood (and Anything Could Happen) are genius compositions.
#4. American by Lana Del Rey
Lana is the breakout act of 2012. Period. Creative, artistic, dark, talented and beautiful are a few word used to describe this genius. My favorite song from the Paradise EP, and from Lana herself, is American. The incredible production, the beautiful chorus, the dark but sweet feel to it. It's like a forbidden fruit.

Here's the background story for Glassheart, Leona went to Ryan Tedder's (OneRepublic's vocalist) house to **** him, but instead they conceptualised the idea for the song. A few days later they met again, they wrote the song and he produced it (along side many other producers), I absolutely adore this song, the lyrics are fantastic, I love the metaphors she uses, the production is flawfree and the dubstep is incredible, Leona's voice also fits perfectly in the song.
#2. Freedom by Paloma Faith
Written by Paloma herself, this masterpiece talks about feeling free with her lover (?) mess tbh, anyway, this is undoubtedly my favorite song from Fall To Grace, the chorus is surpassingly adorable. The lyrics are fun and fantastic, what you expect from Paloma and the production is simple but brilliant and of course her vocals are magnific.
