I don't think its fair to call it a gateway drug, its just the most common and least dangerous drug. There's nothing about doing it that's going to create some DESIRE to try more drugs, unlike how alcohol loosens your inhibitions and can cause you to make rash decisions. If you want to try harder drugs you're going to do them. The vast majority of pot smokers don't do other drugs besides alcohol or tobacco.
