I'm from NYC and the amount of students that lack focus on education is embarrassing tbh. I hope I see more of it when I go to college.

I'll admit that I do not like how far some people take their "patriotism" here though. There is a difference between being proud of your country and being arrogant. I find myself cringing whenever someone acts like America is better then everyone else. Yeah, in some areas but in others... I think it makes us seem ignorant. I am aware we have opportunities other places do not and I do not take that for granted. But I am also aware we have some faults and I'm not going to pretend like we don't. I'm patriotic but realistic. Well, I hope I come across that way.

Well for one, You get asphalt for roads from here. and Sugar. and cocoa for chocolate. and a percentage of your oil and natural gas. amongst other things. But hey enjoy paying for health care.

You said we don't know anything about y'all... like, okay, so? Why should I know anything about your country? It's wonderful that your country does all that for us, I'm sure my life would not be the same without your country, but that really doesn't mean I need to keep myself up on what's going on over that.
I would never want to live there, but hey, enjoy your little shout out in Nicki's "Beautiful Sinner".

I've never had this issue, but I've never went to a public school. I went to liberal private schools. And it depends what college you go to.

I never said that other countries don't have problems. That would be stupid.
I said that America has more issues when compared to other successful nations. And it's unique among those countries in that it's known for it's intense nationalism. Which I find kind of odd.
Also, the "less people here who don't like it the better" is highly reminiscent of totalitarian/authoritarian regimes, so....enjoy your Naziism.

POSITIVELY
I'm from the US but I've done some traveling abroad and from what I can gather, the outsiders usually love Americans. some countries that I've been to in which it seems to me people hold america to a very high regard are: China, Colombia and to a lesser extent Mexico and UK
The only country I've been to where I felt a very negative feel about America is France.
edit: come to think of it I always seem to hold a higher impression of America when I'm abroad -- I don't seem to appreciate it as much when I'm in the country. Of course there are major issues with the country, personally for me being party gridlock, lack of focus on education, and an inability to control spending on issues the government should not be taking part in -- but I still see the US in a positive way.

The "Bible Belt".
Yes, the divide can be rather difficult when resolving issues, but the US is a rather large country so regional interests are expected. However, from the opposite viewpoint, you could argue that the conflict ensures laws that truly benefit all are passed.

Netherlands – United States relations are used to describe the relations of the United States and the Netherlands. The countries were described by former President George W. Bush as "brother nations" and by current President Barack Obama as "closest friends which friendship will never die". Obama has also said that, "Without the Netherlands there wouldn't be a United States of America as everyone knows it now".

Please tell me why I need to concern myself with what's going on in other countries. My knowledge of them would not affect my life, positively or negatively.

Nothing is wrong with nationalism, its the radicalism you're referring too. We should all be proud of what country we come from. And I'm proud of it. There is a reason why my parents came here from their very poor country. They worked there way up, and they been afforded a very comfortable lifestyle. And this is why I've always been proud to be American, because they and I have used every opportunity afforded to us. They didn't like it where they were form, and they moved and excelled. So you don't like it here, so move and excel where you want to go. Maybe my comment came off the wrong way, but it was meant in good intentions.

I think there are lots of things wrong with nationalism, but it's okay that you don't.
It's nice that you think we should be proud of the country we come from, but I'm not proud.
Please, please, keep up your patriotism.

That's basically why the populations of many poor/developing countries view the USA positively. It's a country of opportunities. If you're good at what you do, you won't be ignored.
