Nah. It started when she released her first album in 1990. Those first 2 albums still feature songs she wrote on her own. She released music videos for them too. She simply wasn't successful during that time in her career.
The failures of those albums really helped push her to be a better artist, even if she is ashamed of them. I think she bought out the rights to the albums so that they can never be sold. Lol

Rihanna is 7 years in. She's reach a point in fame where she is well known that even if she still doesnt put out nearly as much projects, lets say 3 albums in the span of 10 more years she will make it and they dont even need to be as successful as lets say a Loud.

I understand people arguing between those who started solo and those who started in a group, sustaining a solo career is a much more difficult work so it would be more honest to make the difference. It's YOU against the world, in that case...
Justin, for example, was local with NSync and only known worldwide because he was Britney's boyfriend before he released Justified in 2002. I didn't even know Beyoncé's name until "Say My Name", DC's first worldwide hit and even though the focus was on her, thanks to her father, I still saw the girls as a group and the changes in the line up were widely publicized.
Moreover, their solo career is so different than thier group one, that it feels natural to make the distinction between the two.

NSync was known worldwide...they just weren't that popular. it's a bit like Nicki Minaj, people know who she is but not your grandma. Just music fans, people who watch MTV, young people basically.

I am hoping bruno will be still around after 10 years, and he will have released 6-8 albums by then, but no one knows what might happen in the future.

P!nk will have a Madonna-long career if she doesn't retire.

I believe every artist on the list will make it to 20yrs. But folks are mentioning artist like Monica and Brandy, does just floating in career limbo without any hits, count as making it to 20yrs? All of those artist on the list, have not fallen off and are still making hits. Mariah, had 20yrs worth of hits non-stop, even when she had her breakdown and issues, she still managed to crank out hits and go multi-platinum. When was the last hit Brandy or Monica had, they are talented, but I don't recall any hits in the last 6 or 7yrs from them? Ashanti, is out there floating around in career limbo too, still seen around shopping and performing at low budget gigs. Even, Vanilla Ice performs here and there, will he get the 20yrs pass too? Toni Braxton, would've made the 20yr mark this year, but she hasn't had any hits either.

Of course it does count. Your career doesn't end just because you are no longer producing hits or getting attention from the masses, and it's rather rare for artists to continue to produce major hits twenty years into their careers anyway. And I don't think it's fair to place Monica and Vanilla Ice in the same sentence or paragraph considering Monica is STILL releasing albums and not just performing as a nostalgic act like Vanilla Ice is. Same with Toni Braxton. She's no longer popular, but she has a record deal and is still releasing new music. You should also note that Usher didn't start to get commercial success until 1997, so do you really think his career started in 1994 (when his first single and album was released) or 1997?

When you sign a record deal, your music career begins, Usher had his 1st charting song in 1993. May be its unfair to put B&M in the same category with Vanilla ice but how
about Christina milian?

So, when does your career end? When you no longer have a record deal or no record label wants you anymore, right?
And yes, I would put Brandy, Monica and Christina in the same box, even though Brandy & Monica have been around longer.
