This song is the second single from the debut album and it did not make the Top 10 of this countdown as Ace insisted. It's a cute slow dance song in a traditional country format. Shania sounds great, but that's to be expected from the Queen. Maybe Ace can give us more insight into it's greatness? The song only reached #55 on the Country chart, so it was not exactly a big hit! An interesting/odd fact about the video is that Sean Penn directed it. I just can't see Sean Penn and Shania Twain hanging out together on a video set, lmao.
And eight songs into the countdown, the debut album is out! This was Shania's debut single, and it's really the only single I use from the first album. With a catchy hook and a sexy video, I can't get "What Made You Say That" out of my head once I hear it. I think this song & video show the kind of potential that Shania had but wasn't being fully harnessed until Mutt came along. This song only reached #55 on the Country chart, which is crazy because it's actually really, really good. This is the last song to have an average less than 7!
