The Voice UK launches with over 8 million viewers, but still loses out to Britain's Got Talent
The launch of The Voice UK on BBC One last night was watched by a huge average audience of 8.4 million viewers, but it wasn’t enough for it to beat tough competition from the return of Britain’s Got Talent.
The Voice, which features coaches Jessie J, Will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones and Danny O’Donoghue, was watched by an average of 8.42 million from 7PM to 8:20PM.
Last night’s first episode of so-called ‘blind’ auditions peaked with an impressive 9.8 million viewers.
Britain’s Got Talent meanwhile saw an average of audience of exactly one million more, with 9.42 million viewers tuning in, peaking with a whopping 11.5 million viewers.
With ITV1+1 viewers included, Britain’s Got Talent rises to an audience of 10 million, peaking with over 12 million viewers.
The two shows overlapped for 20 minutes from 8PM-8:20PM, where The Voice stayed strong with 9 million compared to Britain’s Got Talent’s 6.5 million at the same time.
The Voice UK ratings improve as 9 million watch episode two
APRIL 1, 2012
The Voice UK continued its brilliant start in the ratings last night, improving on last week’s 8.4 million debut to be watched by an average audience of just fewer than 9 million.
8.9 million viewers – a 500,000 increase on last week – tuned into yesterday’s second blind audition show.
Rival Britain’s Got Talent however won the night once again, averaging a healthy 10.3 million, increasing its lead over The Voice by 400,000.
During the 20 minute overlap between the two shows however The Voice did win by two million viewers, a decrease in last week’s 3.3 million gap.
Despite the press reports of a rivalry it seems that both shows are helping one another out, with last night’s BGT up over a million viewers on last year’s instalment.
Both shows continue their audition episodes next Saturday night.
