10. Labrinth feat. Tinie Tempah - “Earthquake”
- The video works way too well with the song and may be the main reason I love the song; It's ridiculous.
09. Yelle - "Safari Disco Club"
- Yelle always seems to have at least one song that shines through each year and yet I usually slack on the albums.
08. Oh My! feat. Scru Fizzer - "Dirty Dancer"
- I miss Lily Allen. This fills some part of that void. Honestly. Oh, and it's super catchy and the girls look awesome.
07. Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera - "Moves Like Jagger"
- It's another song that won mostly because of the singing around me. It's way too catchy and fun.
06. M83– "Midnight City"
- How did I not check it all out in time? This was a great single though and the video reminds me of "We Own the Sky"
I really, REALLY like "Earthquake" - so I'm happy to see it on here fo sho.
And "Jagger" - hmm... it's one of those songs I don't like but I do. Very odd. But it's a time capsule song for this year for sure, so naturally, it should be here.

02. Lights - Siberia
Builds Finalized: October 4, 2011
- Okay, I know may regret this position like I regret my previous decision from 2009 but (how did Lights get placed as only #5 that year?!) this wonderful lady has grown a lot on me on throughout the years. I know it helped that I got to see her in 2009 (how I managed to avoid her in 2010 and 2011 is beyond me but it'll change next year!) but it was amazing seeing her music change and grow, without really leaving her prior fans behind. "Everybody Breaks the Glass" actually threw me off when I first heard it and thought that it was literally garbage. I know, I am horrible. Maybe it was the quality or maybe it was the sole aspect of the song but it just didn't appeal to me. Well something later reminded me that her album came out and I was intrigued. I may have not cared for EBTG but I did adore Lights, so why not? Best. Decision. Ever. This record has been playing continuously on repeat ever since I discovered it. If it wasn't for #1, this would be #1 (yes, stupid statement, there are more to come!). Seriously, she goes into a more beat-heavy direction (I really don't know how to else to describe it... others have done SUCH a better job) that she does a wonderful job with. Her last album was very light sounding, which was perfect for her debut, in my opinion, but it's been great seeing her go more with her strength and explore music the best way she knows possible. Her voice accommodates the new sound so well, which I personally find it more like "The Listening", which was my favorite song from The Listening. It's sad that I didn't properly give EBTG a chance at first because it certainly grew on me, especially when flowing through the album itself. It's just an incredible record and she's an incredible artist. If you have not checked her out, despite seeing her so high on so many lists, what are you waiting for?!
Crucial Units: "Timing is Everything" and "Flux and Flow”
03.Katy B - Katy B
Build Finalized: April 1, 2011
- I honestly cannot remember how I heard about Katy B but I remember thinking she was a bit overrated when everyone kept talking about her. Heck, "Lights On" and "On a Mission" seemed so generic when I first heard them. All of this changed when I saw the video for "Easy Please Me." It had me re-evaluate her and go back to checking out her other songs, previously released and otherwise. I started to realize how unique her voice was and how she was using the latest dubstep craze to her advantage. Ever since, she's been on repeat There have been too many instances where such music has been quite useful and I realize I am just becoming a broken record. I like music with amazing beats, sue me.
Drive & Tron Legacy: Reconfigured. Yay! another album I have heard this year. I especially love "Tron Legacy (End Titles)(Sander Kleinenberg remix), and yes, that song will be on my Top 100.
I haven't checked CSS's last album but I do remember enjoying "Music Is My Boyfriend" a lot back in 2008.
Singles wise, I love Midnight City! Great choice. That Oh My! song sounds interesting, so i'll have to check it out.
Albums wise, Love Lights! As for Katy B, this is the second albums list i've seen with her album in a high placement. I really need to check this thing out!
05. Trent Reznor feat. Karen O. - “Immigrant Song”
- So I'm a huge Trent fan and I'm gonna say I'm pretty big on Karen O too. This should not be surprising. What was surprising is seeing this on big screen as the best opening of the year. Yeah, I said it.
04. Bjork - "Crystalline"
- Bjork is awesome. Gerry told me about this song months in. Then, I forgot that the album came out this year too. Regardless, I still appreciate Bjork and this was a great song!
03. Matt & Kim - "Block after Block"
- I still hate myself for not seeing their free or actual show here. They are way too fun and Sidewalks was not super appreciated last year. I love this, it brightens my day.
02. Lykke Li - "I Follow Rivers"
- Same deal as the rest. Massive failure on album. Great artist and favorite single from artist. Yep.
Thanks for all the support and comments! HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
I'll bring the top single and album after we ring in the new year
