no its not. Bionic and not myself went gold there even though they were huge flops. Shakira can;t even get her albums released there... and Burlesque movie and soundtrack was a huge success in Australia and New Zealand.... Moves Like Jagger is one of the biggest hits in Australia this year as well.

I agree on the songs and the image, shakira's biggest hits were really succesful (whenever wherever, hips dont lie) but have been kinda forgotten, they cant compete with genie in a bottle, lady marmalade, dirrty, beautiful, etc

Also xtina's image during stripped was extremely controversial.

Whether or not a song is forgotten i extremely subjective. Hips Don't Lie still stays on radio while Genie and dirrty are forgotten, in my opinion.

You don't have to be CONTROVERSIAL to be an ICON. I don't think Mariah has had many controversies.

Yes it is. Bionic was a huge flop. Not myself tonight went gold due to hype alone. So you conveniently excluded the fact that SHE WOLF went platinum, Waka went gold and even give it up to me went gold? LOL

I don't care if she did well in that movie (I liked that movie btw), it did nothing for her icon status.

ROFL. Xtina's 07 ""performance"" - if you can even call it that was an oversung, overdone scream-event that sounded like she was being strangled. Especially that "whistle" bit, if you can even call it a whistle. Screaming E5s does not mean it's an iconic performance.
And LOL at you considering as if Xtina actually wrote beautiful. ALL of the songs shakira puts out are written by her except for coers, whereas beautiful was a linda perry effort.

Im talking strictly Australia.... Like I said She Wolf and Sale El Sol couldn't even get released let alone chart. Bionic debut top 5. Burlesque was the biggest musical there since Moulan Ruge. lmao at not doing nothing for her iconic status. have you not seen all the girls and gays trying to emulate the dance numbers and looks on youtube? the soundtrack is on its way to platinum status there.

Actually her label has been ignoring Australia COMPLETELY as a market since god knows when, so it's no surp[rise, and it is actually AMAZING that she wolf could chart so high, and waka waka could sell so much when radios refused to play waka waka and played wavin flag instead. She Wolf even charted higher than Not Myself Tonight in Australia
Bionic debut top 5, and slid down uimedaitely, like every other country. As I said, it was the sheer HYPE and probably front page itunes that got it up there, which is great ,eaning she has that solid base, but it shed off pretty quick.

Christina is one of my faves too but the truth of the matter is worldwide shes just not as big as an icon as Shakira. Shakira's music opeens to so many territories, her recent world tour sold out at places Christina can only dream at. Yes maybe in Australia shakira is not as popular as christina, but worldwide, she is a much bigger icon than christina aguilera.
