It's sad, really.  Everytime the goat has her time to shine, someone steals it. And this time it is a legendary, but currently irrelevant band.  I wonder if their albums will be back on the BB 200 albums?

This. Everyone should be bowing at the metion of these legends, it makes no sense to hate on The Beatles just because they are doing an iTunes takeover.

If this happened the week of a Rihanna or Beyonce album release....
You guys are so hypocritical.
None of us are saying the Beatles are bad or are hating at them.
They are legendary, and are the biggest band ever, but its very annoying that this had to happen the week of the release of the Rihanna album that could possibly hit #1 on BB.
You have to understand that that is annoying.

I don't think The Beatles will ever be "irrelevant." There are some artists who will never really be irrelevant to music. Michael, despite his down period, and The Beatles will never be irrelevant, IMO.

By late Monday afternoon the Wall Street Journal, citing "people familiar with the situation," said the announcement would involve the Beatles' digital catalog. The paper said that the deal was being negotiated as recently as last week between Apple, representatives for the Beatles and their record label, EMI.
Apple and the group have had a long and often fraught relationship, and not just because the computer giant and the Beatles' custom label share a name (which was the cause of the first legal action between the two companies, in 1978).
Due to the complexities of the Beatles' finances, the group has been late to many developments in the music industry: Its catalog was not released on CD until 1987, and boxed sets of unreleased material were not released until the mid-1990s, after being available on bootlegs for decades. When the group's catalog was finally remastered and released last September, a press release simply said: "Discussions regarding the digital distribution of the catalogue will continue. There is no further information available at this time."

What's "unfair" about The Beatles having the big front page banner? This is the first time their catalog is available to the iTunes world. It would make sense for them to get a big banner and push the lessors to the bottom.
