Yes they can, they hurt Michael as an artist and as a person in a level that he could never be the same...i'm sure the press had a part of responsability on the consequences we all know.
And yes, Gaga is not original. She has taken from Grace Jones, David Bowie, Madonna and the like. I can't think of any artist today who is 100% original.
And has always given them credit for inspiring her.
