Not to be pedantic, but it kind of was. Two consecutive years as the best seller, and by the end of year three it was the best selling album ever. It pushed Michael to a level that makes Gaga's and Britney's peaks look like an anthill at the foot of Mount Everest.
But I agree with your overall comment, long run is all that can determine this. As for right now, encompassing both careers, LG is far ahead of KP.
