That is the ONE Hilary movie that I really cannot bare to watch. I never quite understood why the critics were always bashing Hilary's acting. Of course, I know she is NO Meryl Streep but for most of her teen movies she was cute and played the girl next door role well but with Material Girls I saw (in my eyes) Hilary's weakest performance to date. The script was horrible and I felt like Hilary and Haylie's talents were being wasted. The directing looked like that of a cheap TV Movie of The Week on Lifetime and I just cringed because it was just a painful movie to watch.
What saddens me about Hilary's indie career is that the projects she has done have been very hit and miss, literally:
Hit: War Inc (Hilary's performance got rave reviews, she got lots of media attention for this role and it mananged to do well at the box office.)
Miss: What Goes Up (I liked the movie but the reviews were horrible and many fans didn't like it.)
Hit: Greta (Hilary starred & served as the E.P. and the movie remains a fan favorite.)
Miss: Stay Cool (Shot in 2008, I saw it in 2010, when it leaked, Hilary doesn't have that much screentime and the movie kind of lags on to me.)
Hit: Bloodworth (Hilary's highest rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes)
She needs to get it together. I know RightNow will have something to say about this.
