Zendaya covers British Vogue
The new issue of British Vogue just hit the shelves, and singer Zendaya Coleman, 17, known simply just as Zendaya, flaunts her natural beauty and shines on this month's issue cover. Zendaya just parted her ways with Disney and Hollywood Records platforms, who helped her launch her career, and right now, she is currently readying her upcoming sophomore album, which is set to be released sometime within next two months, via her new recording and publishing label, Republic Records. In her magazine spread, Zendaya tells all the backstory of what happened with her previous music publishing label Hollywood Records; what it is like to live this kind of lifestyle while only being 17; opens up about being homesick; speaks about her music, which is Zendaya's main priority at the moment as she explains that all she want to do now is to tour and perform on various shows and tells more about her enchanting fashion style, beauty, and even shares some skin care tips. While she is currently locked up in the recording studio somewhere in New York City, Zendaya's fanbase, ZSwaggers, is just getting bigger and bigger as Zendaya gains more fans everyday whenever radios or TV channels plays her music.
"I'm super stoked to release a whole new album. I think that my music improved on a whole new level, which is really exciting, and I want to show everyone what I can do. When I released my first album, I wanted to become a major teen popstar and follow footsteps of Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus and other young singers, who launched their careers with a help from, for example, Disney, or Nickelodeon. I wanted to be just like them, I wanted to a popstar. But then I suddenly felt something has changed, I don't even know if that was my favorite music style or what, but I became obsessed with urban/rhythmic music. And when I first released my album, my favorite song was Replay, but within sometime, I became obsessed with My Baby, who is more urban, rhythmic. I decided to hit the studio and record some new music, and once I did that, the urban sound really clicked and I've decided to continue recording this type of music, you know, urban, rhythmic, something like that. My first, debut, self-titled album, was praised for being really good and mature, knowing I was only sixteen when I recorded that, but I think my upcoming sophomore album will kick everyone in the butt. I became even more mature since that album, I think differently, my writing skills improves and I have way more ideas than I had before. This album might shock some people, not because it'll be vulgar or something - it won't be vulgar though, don't freak out - but I think that sound, that mature oldschool urban, mixed with nowadays mainstream urban, will shock everyone, especially just because I'm only 17 and I'm already recording this kind of music." When we ask her about the other songs on her album, Zendaya just smiles, smirks a bit and she continues: "Well, I don't want to give out everything, but unexpectedly, my music turned out to be mature. I feel like I've matured much more than I thought I did, and my music style grew with me as well. Now, instead of throwing a lot of sounds in one song, I like to keep it plain, and work more on the melody, on the lyrics, instead of how big it sounds and stuff. I think the quality is way more important than quantity. It can be only one note played on piano, but it still has to be perfect. I mean the instrumental - it can be only played with piano, but if I'm using something simple, then I'm making sure everything is as perfect and as good as possible."
Earlier this year, Zendaya's previous label, Hollywood Records, have decided to drop her off the label because her single, and album, didn't reach significant places on charts, but Zendaya didn't give up on her dreams and continued making music, even without a label: "Yes, they dropped me. And they told me that they are dropping me because my single, "Replay" didn't become a huge hit, and my debut album, "Zendaya" opened with very poor numbers. When I was signing with them, I thought that both sides have clear vision of my music career and this deal, but when I released the lead single, I suddenly realized that I've been wrong. Hollywood Records mostly cared about the goals, the peaks on charts, the numbers and stuff like that, when I mainly cared about the music and that I want it to be heard. It turned out that both sides realized that we didn't have the same vision and we both agreed that they will drop me without further fighting. But - I didn't give up and I returned to recording studio. I started recording songs once again, although the process after I got dropped was slow. When we recorded couple of songs, I had this one gig, I think it was at Hard Rock Cafe, when I was spotted by Republic Records president himself. We met up together in couple of days, they listened to my debut album, then they listened to some of my new stuff, and they offered me a record deal. I didn't sign the deal that fast just like I did with Hollywood Records, and in that situation, I was a bit scared to sign a deal once again with a label, but seeing my fears, they offered my a deal and also, freedom, saying that I get to make the decisions as long as I release some singles, as much as I want, and two albums, under their label. Oh, and I also have to perform on at least 6 shows that they book me, but that's a pleasure for me, to promote the music and perform it as much as possible. Even if they won't like my singles that I want to put out, they will have to agree with me, no matter what. And that's why I'm super excited about this upcoming record and my single - no one's stopping me now."
Speaking about her fashion style and choices, Zendaya seemed to be happy talking about fashion, which probably only means that the singer is interested in fashion and cares about what she is wearing. And her previous out and abouts, or red carpet appearances just proves us that we're right - no matter where she is going, Starbucks on Billboard Music Awards, Zendaya knows how to grab people's attention without trying too much, she can do it by just dressing up nicely. "I know millions of celebrities who don't even care what they are wearing or in what they're walking out infront of paparazzis; they just wear whatever their stylists throw and however their make-up artists do their make-up. Personally, I care about my looks and outfits. Not that I want to be on the cover of magazines when they name me the best dressed of the night or the week or whatever - I dress because I want to feel good for myself. I think dressing up nicely and seeing yourself in a good, beautiful outfit, automatically boosts your confidence. I don't know if it's just me or whatever, but I feel really good when I'm wearing a nice and comfortable outfit. If I'm wearing something beautiful, I'll definately pose for the paps. It's a good thing to know that you look good when you go out." After she literally snatched all the attention during her appearance on 106 & Park recently by showing up in that beautiful outfit, she made fashion critics take a look at her beauty, style and uniqueness: "I think it's my favorite look I've ever worn so far. It was really comfortable and the fabric was amazingly fitting as well, it just felt like I'm literally showing up there naked, I didn't feel any kind of weight!"

Zendaya performs on David Letterman Show
Zendaya stopped by David Letterman Show earlier today, to perform her recently released single "Gunshots" live on the show. After all of the guests were interviewed by the show's host, David Letterman himself, and right before the show's end, the time was up for Zendaya to perform on the stage. Appearing on the stage with a live band and four back-up dancers, the stage presentation was really simple, as the dancers and Zendaya stood in the front, while live band remained in their backs. All dancers and Zendaya were wearing matching black leather clothes, which looked awesome and interesting, creating this whole mysterious and gangsta look on the stage. The only thing that stood out was that Zendaya was wearing shining black Louboutin high-heeled shoes, while her back-up dancers wore simple black sneakers. All the cameras and lights were mainly focused on Zendaya as she was performing her song. Zendaya's vocal performance was actually impressive, because even if there are just few high or long notes on the song, it's still hard to sing and dance at the same time, which seemed Zendaya can do without any kind of problem. It was obvious that Zendaya didn't lypsinc as she used to do sometimes while performing songs from her previous album, but this time, it was too obvious she's singing live, and even if sometimes she didn't hit the right note, back-up vocalists helped her out. The dance was cool and even a bit tricky, but the dancers, and Zendaya as well, managed to do it without making mistakes, which just proved that they've been rehearsing for these performances for a month or two now, because the choreography was polished, everything was synchronised and very well placed. After the performance, David Letterman came up on stage and congratulated Zendaya on having a new and exciting single out, and also thanked for agreeing to perform on their show. David complimented her dance moves and vocal abilities as well.
