I don't respect a cuckoo's belief that between the Earth and Mars there is a china teapot revolving about the sun in an elliptical orbit. Why should I respect your equally delusional beliefs? It just makes no sense to demand respect for mass delusions. One person believing something bizarre is insanity, a group of people believing it is a religion, which everyone somehow must respect. The utter stupidity in it all. Believe what you like, just don't impose it on others and don't get upset if someone doesn't respect it.

sis that is some scalping teas.
My PERSONAL belief is that Madonna is the real god and if anyone here tries to disrepect my god, y'all getting banned

Stephen Hawking is a brilliant expert in the area of physics, but just because someone is an expert in ONE part of reality does not mean he is an expert and has the final authority in ALL of reality (metaphysics) especially in what religion considers the ultimate reality (God).

Not the Christians here calling people out for being disrespectful when your people have been denying all other religions and starting holy wars and killing people of other beliefs

Intelligence is a rational scientific concept so I don't really understand why the religious here get so offended by the first comment.

I just don't understand how, when presented with such facts and science, people can still choose "god".
I hope that more people in power express their Atheism.

Hello there! It's clear from your last post that you're trying to point toward me, in addition to me being the most vocal about disrespect here. I'll take this time to note I'm not religious at all (as previously stated!). And, somehow, still realize it's asinine to accuse people of stupidity due to faith. I'll also take the time to leave this here for you to ponder:
Quote:
In addition, The Independent pointed out that the researchers used a narrow definition of intelligence. In the paper, intelligence is defined as “the ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend complex ideas, learn quickly, and learn from experience." This excludes other forms of intelligence, like creative and emotional intelligence.
|
Not to mention that I'm pretty unwilling to pay money to read through the methodology of the report or track it down somewhere else.
I might also note that from what CAN be freely read, the ascribed levels of religiosity to two distinct but very broad groups and measured the correlation of their value of intelligence; the did not, however, ascribe any average values to distinctly religious and nonreligious groups, which makes it hard to give a blanket statement. In addition, from what I have learned in my college-level classes, the correlation between their variables was strong, but not strong enough to draw hard conclusions upon without further data.
Even if in the end religious people are indicated indisputably to somehow have a lesser degree of intelligence than nonreligious people, it's incredibly unlikely that there will be a significant gap at all between the two groups and it will still be offensive and rude, by standard principles of human interaction, to use that information in virtually any way to insult or belittle people of faith.

I believe the perfect symmetry and mathematical language woven into the fabric of the universe is proof enough this isn't the haphazard result of a random chain of events.
Such perfection and seamlessness can only be the work of a higher consciousness.
That's just my belief though-

I'm not saying he's the final authority on anything, and I actually really like hearing critiques critiques from people of equal stature to Hawking rather than Internet users who, at most, have taken an astronomy course as their community college and looked up the Big Bang Wikipedia page. It's cute seeing the attempts to refute him, but overall nothing interesting or substantial is being said, as per ATRL's status quo. That's all I was saying.

Let me know if anyone disrespects that belief of yours and we will sue them or start a war! How dare they!

And yet none of it disproves God.

Um, hello, this is ATRL. If you're looking for debates by experts in their fields, you're gonna have a bad damn time, dear.
By the way, on the topic of (mild) disrespect, there are actually ATRLers with degrees from accredited full time institutions and many, many more who actually attend them and do have a respectable education and clearly seek out information (from sources other than Wikipedia, mind you). Faulting someone for basing their arguments on information which they have sought out with legitimate intentions is itself a faulty position to take; actually arguing back with what you know or can find would be more productive and interesting than being dismissive because the other people aren't "equal in stature" to Stephen Hawking of all people.

I'm an evangelical Christian, but still believe in proven scientific evidence. I don't believe in evolution and the Big Bang theory, however. And, don't bother calling me unintelligent; I have. 4.5 GPA. Be respectful of others' views!

Concept: a general idea.
There is nothing that is known as pure fact in science, including evolution and the Big Bang theory. Scientists believe it happened but can't prove it, and they will be the first to admit that. They have theories, not facts, and are always testing their theories to discover new answers. Up until a year ago, the Higgs Boson particle hadn't even been discovered. Scientists could find something tomorrow that discredits the entire theory of evolution. I'm not meaning to be come off as rude. I understand why people believe in evolution, but I dont. And, that doesn't make me any less intelligent than anyone else.

So what exactly is the reason you don't believe in evolution?
