ARTPOP - Lady Gaga
The Essential Tracks: G.U.Y., Sexxx Dreams, Jewels N' Drugs, ARTPOP, Swine
No matter how fun it is to troll Gaga and her fans, when it all boils down I will always anticipate new music from her. "ARTPOP" is probably Gaga's worst album (yes, it's possible to have an album worse than "Born This Way") but I think it contains some of her best work as well. "Sexxx Dreams" is entrancing and has one of my favorite pop hooks of the year. "G.U.Y." is about as equally addicting. "Jewels N' Drugs" is hated among fans but I find the trap beat perfect and think it's cool that Gaga would experiment with it. For every great song on the album however, there is some sludge that brings it down. "Dope" could be my least favorite Gaga song EVER and songs like "Fashion!" "Manicure" and "Mary Jane Holland" are so... reductive. I don't think that Stefani has lost the ability to make a good pop song, I think she lost the ability to connect with people outside of her immediate fanbase. "Applause" did pretty decently, but c'mon, the standard for a first single from Lady Gaga isn't "pretty decent". I think that is what Gaga's main problem is right now, and the reason why she won't have another hit from this album outside of possibly "Gypsy". None of "ARTPOP"s best songs are relatable. Until this bitch figures out how to tone down the weird factor she's just going to continue to flounder.

Get Wet - Krewella
The Essential Tracks: Live For the Night, Come & Get It, Dancing With the Devil, Alive, Pass the Love Around
Krewella was a group that I just discovered in 2013 with their hit "Alive". While the lead single isn't particularly striking, what excited me the most was their potential, which I continued to see with their second single "Live For the Night". The idea of a pop-leaning EDM album was very enticing to me, and I was definitely pleased when I listened to the album. Some songs are a little more generic than I was hoping ("Enjoy the Ride" "We Are One", etc.) but songs like "Dancing With the Devil" really gave me what I was looking for. "Pass the Love Around" is definitely the song that relies the least on dance music, and it's really a great track that would instantly ignite charts should a singer like Rihanna or Katy Perry had used it instead. "Come & Get It" is another one of my favorites, its a complete BANGER. Like I dare you to not shake ya ass when this song plays, woo. But what kept "Get Wet" from being a phenomenal album for me was that some of the songs were just a little stale or otherwise boring, particularly the last few songs on the album. Despite that they really put together a solid album and I can't wait to see what they can do next. Also the album cover is the shittttttttttt

Yours Truly - Ariana Grande
The Essential Tracks: Honeymoon Avenue, Right There, Lovin' It, Daydreamin', The Way
I originally didn't like Ariana at all and pretty much completely ignored "The Way" when it first came out, but when I listened to "Yours Truly" I was quite impressed. Pretty much every track after number 8 is mediocre at best, but those first eight are SOLID. Singles wise I think she has only pushed "Right There" after the first single and it's a carbon copy of that song, but it is cute with a superior production to "The Way". I thought it was pretty cool that the whole album is a neat R&B/Pop fusion, because looking at her you wouldn't expected her have a great voice and a R&B flavor to her. More than anything I think her potential is the most intriguing. I mean if she was capable of putting an album this good out as her debut, I can only imagine how her future endeavors will be. I think that Ariana will stick around for a while and I really hope she puts out an album in 2014 that is a testament to that. If she continues to push the niche as a R&B tinged pop artist I think she could easily be a little Mariah Carey lite.

I like ARTPOP, and for me, it's a better album than BTW it has some good songs, but the promo has been a mess!
Yours Truly is great too, wasn't expecting this type of music from Ariana

ooop I'm gonna finish the albums portion tonight, the write ups are gonna only be a few sentences though. And no essential tracks because if an album has made it this far then damn near every track should be essential. Stay tuned!

Ciara - Ciara
Really great album from an artist I've always liked. Gives me Rihanna-lite teas musically. I'm glad Ciara put out a great album and gained a solid standing again in the mainstream. Also "Overdose" being snubbed <<<<<<<<<<<

Same Trailer Different Park - Kacey Musgraves
This album really made me appreciate the genre. Kacey is probably one of my favorite artists that I discovered in 2013. I love how she is almost an anti-country star, and I really can't wait to see what she puts out next.

Yeezus - Kanye West
Hands down my favorite album production of 2013. Not a single song is boring. Even though the lyrical content is a little lacking, Kanye's swagger more than makes up for it. I honestly think that this is my favorite Kanye album.

Nothing Was the Same - Drake
Regardless of the title, this is more of the same from Drake, the same being great music. I'm not sure if I like this one more than Take Care, but either way they are two amazing albums. Drake is an artist who knows his craft, and if this album is anything to go by, he'll continue to release satisfying music for a long time.

Beyonce - Beyonce
I'm far from a Beyonce fanatic, but after a few spins of this self titled album there wasn't a doubt in my mind that this was my favorite LP of the whole year. Which honestly isn't saying all that much since I thought 2013 was disappointing musically. ANYWAY, Beyonce easily delivered one of the best mainstream albums of the year, supported by amazing songs like "XO", "Drunk In Love", and "Haunted", which are some of the greatest songs in their genres that I have heard in a long while.
