Wow, who needs HAIM anyway? New Starbuckscore queen? This is such an irresistible power pop anthem. All songs that these need are an infectious timeless melody.
84. Tatianna - The Same Parts
SPOKEN WORD by Tati (who had an amazing career revival this year) with super grating electro nonsense. I dunno why it works so well. Probably because I'm gay.
83. Fiestar - Mirror
The dramatic power-ballad/slow jam is sorta a successor to Rainbow's Black Swan. The beat has a really great synth line so I use.
82. Esperanza Spalding - Good Lava
All I (and lots of others) knew of this girl was that she beat Justin Bieber for the BNA grammy but she really did give us the best math rock anthem of the year! Thought she was a Jazz artist too.
81. HANA - Underwater
This post-Zola Jesus type music is really easy to come by. HANA hits all the right notes by refusing to distort her voice.
I'm surprised that a lot of people don't like "24K Magic" the song. It's not original or anything, but it's a banger of a tune. It's one of those songs that you just don't try to think about all that much and let yourself go to the music.
Esperanza's album came & went for me. I only heard it about maybe twice but never said to myself to go back to it. Good Lava is okay. I think underwater is my fave here.
Fifth Harmony go even more Hip-Pop with their second lead single and it works. The simplistic (rugrats?) beat hypnotizes you and then all of a sudden you hear yourself whipsering "work work work work" everywhere you go.
79. Up Up Girls - Party People Alien
Love the belting at the beginning, and then the rapid fire verses are fun to try to sing/hum along to. The chorus is really just a break down but its nice that they added some robotic vocals so you can still sing along.
78. Prince Rama - Bahia
2000s Psychedelic indie pop meets 80s disco. So you know I'm gonna lurve it. I feel like these girls are really underrated and overlooked. It's a great intro for a super consistent album.
77. Santigold - Who I Thought You Were
The closer to Santi's album pretty much feels like a throwback to her first album. It's way more new wavey than anything else on the album or her last one to me, and the message of the song is sorta relatable. Does anybody know if its about somebody in particular?
76. K. Michelle - Mindful
I can't unhear jose telling me she channels Trina perfectly on this song. It's really really short, which makes me always crave more (a good thing) and I love that she's telling someone to back off by being mindful. It's silly.
