Auckland, where Lorde lives, has the largest Polynesian population of any city in the world.
I'm not sure how you measure diversity, but from wikipedia:
New Zealand: 74.0% European
Canada: 76.7% White
United States: 72.41% White
The
trend in Auckland is toward a much greater ethic mix than in past decades.

Dating someone from a different race or ethnic group shouldn't really be considered that unusual.
For starters, two of our biggest ethnic minorities are Maori (our indigenous people) and Pacific Islanders.
Teen Hottie deserves someone at her league. Her ex probably couldn't handle her rise to fame.
