It's a different thing to say i dont like 21 as an album it's not my type of music etc i understand and respect that but saying its overrated cause you dont get all the hype/sales/awards it got, n that case you are ignorant and let me say it again pressed.
I would never miss the oppostunity to be in a thread that provides so many kii's.
But you realize that's literally the definition of finding something overrated, yes?
Feeling that something does not deserve all the accolades and sales it receives does not make you ignorant, it makes you opinionated. Nothing wrong with having an opinion.
Adele is certainly not the singer Whitney was, she's not even technically that great and that's not what I meant by my comment. Adele has a very lovely tone and her voice is very expressive. The album is focused around that. You don't have to be the best singer in the world for people to like your voice. For example, Mariah is arguably the best singer in the music industry but I don't like her voice all that much. .
You missed the point. You don't have to be as good as Whitney to do any of those things I have listed...
Yes, Adele has a pretty tone, we've established that, we can agree on that. Does that make her album any less basic & generic? No. Intention, execution & interpretation are very important, but an album has to do more than give a pretty voice time to shine, whether that is the intention or not. That's not how you make a great album.
The lyrics content was really good, and extraordinary put up against someone like Kesha/Pitbull. That definitely helped in reviews. But you can still have unique production that also isn't under produced. Someone Like You is the perfect example of an unevelved pop balled
1. Only uses 4 chords
2. Unvaried triplet arpeggios in the treble throught the entire song, and only using notes from said chords
3. Octaves in the base using notes from said chords for the majority of the song. Have a look for yourself and see the lack of variation. If you don't look at the vocals, each page is practically identical.
And then when it comes to the vocals, she sings almost softly (not quite) in her chest voice, and whales on the chorus again in her chest voice not really offering much when it comes to dynamics. Really basic tbh.
You really need to stop.
Adele's singing is influenced in blues singing, not Whitney Houston style singing. You are definitely pressed because people THINK she has an amazing voice. Get the **** over it.

You aren't really arguing with anything I said. SLY is probably the most basic song on the album, the piano is really just backing and I have no doubt that it was just the chords that the song was written with. It's totally focused on her voice and It's actually one of my least favorite songs on that album. It only really got so big because it was a good concept for a song that people could easily relate to.
I have already addressed that Adele's voice is not technically brilliant but if you can only judge music this way then I kinda feel a bit sorry for you. Sometimes simple can be very good too.
But you realize that's literally the definition of finding something overrated, yes?

That's why i said it and read the first part to find your anwer. It's exactly what i said.
It has a score of only 76 on metacritic. Good albums get 70s on metacritic, but so do safe, monotonous albums (21). An album daring and experimental like Beyoncé would get 80+. There is nothing new or experimental about 21, if you don't agree, speak up. Smilies are not making a great case for you.
Songs about sucking dick isn't "daring" or "experimental."
It's personally not the type of music I'm into. It's a snoozefest for me. I love ballads but Adele's songs are a bit too boring. Her voice is incredible though. I understand why people like the album but I think it's overrated.
It's acclaim came from the general public, which is the only thing that matters. Some of the most critically panned albums of all time are considered some of the greatest albums of all time.
You all need to quit relying on Metacritic. It's practically worthless. There's more to acclaim than a Metacritic score.
Well then, the GP overrates it tbh. However, music critics (represented by Metacritic) don't. They gave it the reviews it deserved. No overtly praising nor panning, you know. I'd personally give the album 80 instead of 76, but it's close.

Well, Bach was the greatest musician that ever graced this world, He wrote with the Mattheus Passion a Magnus Opus that included all the western music style that was known at the time but he also created the Air on the G String, was there ever something written more simple and beautiful?

Really you wanna compare this to pop music. KK.
Dynamics, trills, rubato. Everything Adele is lacking.
Simple? That can be debated. It was through composed and contrapuntal at times, nothing simple or generic about that. Try again.

Why do you keep on insisting it is basic and generic? You don't like it, we get it, but you don't have to insult it.
You Stan for Natasha Bedingfeld, the definition of UK basic.
I'm not the one here pretending her album is something it's not tho. All her albums offer more than 21 that's for sure. I mean on every single on of her albums there is at least 1 song that sounds like every song on 21. That's telling

Because it's the truth. Has nothing to do with me liking it.
