Um, making a few statements in interviews is not letting the world know youre gay. Most people know his music and dont know a thing about his sexuality. In their eyes hes singing about a woman and he reinforced it with his straight themed video.

Thats like when jk rowling said Dumbledore was gay. Um, no. If the entire book series doesnt mention hes gay then he isnt gay.

He's not ashamed since he's acknowledged his sexuality on many occasions and he doesn't have to be a spokesperson for a group. He can express himself the way he sees fit. That is my opinion and it won't be changing.

There's a difference between using vague / gender neutral pronouns and deliberately changing them to appear straight. If y'all don't see how messed up that is then I don't even know what to say.

He doesn't need to be some vocal advocate but he is literally doing everything he can when it comes to his music to throw people off his Island Fantasy scent. For what reason I've no idea, but it says a lot about him. And none of it's good.

He doesn't want to use his sexual orientation as the main thing that people talk about when they mention his name, but rather his songs. Maybe it's pressure from the label too, but I don't think he's ashamed or anything. There are a lot at stake when you're in this kind of industry.

The thing that bothers me about this is that female pop singers sing about men all the time, and they never have to worry about making anything gender neutral. Not sure why gay men have to. I've notice this only really applies to men as well because a woman can get away with singing about another woman. If people really cared about universal appeal than half of the love/heartbreak songs written by females would not really fly. I think it has more to do with the fact that he's a gay man.

I don't think he's ashamed. After all, he was pretty open and feminine just a few years ago before he blew up. I think he's being pressured to downplay he's gayness by his label and management in order to sell more records to the masses (who are mostly straight). Sam has a good thing going for him right now. His music reaches a huge section of the populus, both gay AND straight because he isn't in-your-face about it like other gay artists such as Adam Lambert. Whether we like it or not, the public isn't ready for a flamboyent queen to be tearing up the charts yet. Sam is the first step in the right direction.

I do wish that he could completely be himself (and I'm sure he is when he's around his friends), but for now, I don't see anything wrong with the persona he portrays. And also, he's not the only artist to use gender-neutral lyrics. A lot of straight artists do that in order to appeal to a wider audience. It also makes it easier when people do covers because they don't have to change lyrics to suit their gender/sexuality.

Also jose's quote seems to be making fun of this quote by Sam.
