Sometimes being realistic means being a little closed minded. I think me being ok with him being gay is as open minded as I can get. If that was his wish, of course. As a parent my main concern would be his safety. But I would be so happy that he was confident enough to express his true self.

Children don't know that "dresses are for girls"; society and parents teach them that. If my son wants to wear CLOTH that's described as a dress, then so be it. I'm not going to stop my child from expressing himself freely. That's exactly what my parents did to me and it's not good for anybody.

Also, I feel that we're moving into a future where gender will be more fluid, so eventually, this won't be such an issue for narrow-minded folk.

In all honesty, no. Not because I think it's wrong or that he should be ashamed, but because I'd have genuine concerns about his safety.

Though I probably would if I felt like he could properly defend himself (though by the time he could, he'd be a legal adult and I shouldn't be telling him what to do regardless.)

I'd let my son wear whatever he wants to wear... girls can wear pants, boys can wear dresses. It's just clothing, it's not hurting anybody and if someone has a problem it can remain THEIR problem. As long as my kid treated people well and obeyed the law; I'd let my child (If I ever had one) be exactly the kind of person they wanted to be.

I haven't exactly read the whole thread, but I don't see why saying no means that you think your child doesn't know what they want, so I will elaborate a bit further on my post.

You can't control everyone, and there's no guarantee that some psycho won't come up and hurt your child. There are, however, things you can do to reduce the risks of that happening. One of those things, as sad as it is, is having your child stay within the societal gender constructs. I don't agree with them, but I still know it'd be best to follow them.

I also will not make my child a social statement at the risk of their well-being. If they want to do that on their own accord when I no longer have a say in what they do, then they can go on ahead. I won't like it, but that's their decision.

So in short, I would say no; not because I think it's wrong or because I think he wouldn't know what he wants...it's because I do not have enough trust in society to put my son out in the world wearing a dress, and expect him to come home physically and mentally sound.

No, I refuse to raise a bottom. jk lol but seriously though I'll prolly warn him about the consequences of doing so but in a very loving manner but I would prefer him not to until he reached the age where he's really sure about it and he can protect himself because God knows I would be ready to whoop assess in case someone tries it with my son.
