The bottom line is no. It wasn't remembered, it wasn't covered and it got no pick up from any media outlet after the performance aired. None of the entertainment talk shows like Extra, Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight talked about her performance. Even online sites didn't even reference it. The performances most people talked about were Janet's tribute to her brother Micheal, Beyonce's Single Ladies performance and Jay-Z's performance with Lil Mama and Alicia Keys. She was overlooked that year completely and no one remembered her performance. People were far more interested in the Taylor Swift, Kanye drama. Gaga was not talked about at all that night. Why are the monsters trying so hard with this?

Atleast you're a good troll with nice presentation skills, unlike Deeds and few others in this thread.

It's the complete truth. Sometimes I wonder where the hell you monsters live, no one was talking about Gaga's Paparazzi performance. The only thing that was talked about in reference to Gaga that night was her Phantom of the Opera fashion choices which people thought were weird. Gaga was talked about in the fashion section only, her performance wasn't even referenced. No one talked about her when people bring up the 2009 VMA's in terms of performances Janet, Taylor, Beyonce, Kanye and Jay Z were the most talked about after the VMA's aired. Gaga wasn't. It's as simple as that. I don't know why you are trying so hard to make that performance memorable. She got her moment a year later when she won 13 awards for Bad Romance and sang Born This Way in her meat dress. If you wanted a memorable moment for her that was it. It wasn't her bleeding on stage in 2009 because no one cared about that.
I live in a world called reality. The 2009 Paprazzi performance was not even talked about that night. It wasn't talked about in terms of performances and it wasn't talked about in terms of highlights of the night. No one referenced it. The monsters seem to think everything Gaga does is memorable and that couldn't be further from the truth, in terms of actual facts no one was using that performance by her. She was overshadowed that year easily.

LMFAO, how on earth wasn't it talked about in terms of performances? Judging from the video, the audience was standing throughout the whole performance and they were literally SHOCKED when she started to bleed. How did the media totally ignore something that caused such reactions from the audience? And I'm very sure most people actually remember a Lady Gaga bleeding and hanging herself on stage than, let's say, Beyonce's or Jay-Z's performance.

Gaga fans seem to believe that anything Gaga sets herself on is "iconic". I remember there was a thread TEEMING with them at one point claiming Gaga's facial prosthetics were iconic and influential. Monsters also claim that "Joe Calderone" is iconic, when in reality, the only reason he was talked about for 15 seconds was because of the offhand comment about "touching himself to Britney Spears."
Gaga does things for shock value, as the Paparazzi performance proved. However, it was not memorable. If it was memorable the media would have talked about it. If it was memorable it would have made television shows like "eXTra", "Good Morning America", and a plethora of other news and talk shows.
This performance is only remembered by the Gaga stans because they have it ingrained in their deluded little minds that this is the cream of the crop in terms of performance art. Do you want REAL performance art that was ACTUALLY talked about? Look up Beyoncé's performance from the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. That was art. That was talked about in the media. People REMEMBER(ED) that performance and it was discussed the month after.
Gaga's performance was a blink in the eye during the 2009 VMA's and was completely overshadowed by Taylor/Kanye. If you want to try to prove that Gaga had an iconic moment, cite the 2010 VMA's, at least you all won't look like idiots.

It's certainly memorable but the context you're asking in, it's not. The Kanye/Taylor thing overshadowed it.

Nonetheless it's still a consensus. If this was a poll versus her other performances. This would still come on top.
Sorry I just had to dig for this receipt

What the ****? Of course it was, just because there was something bigger going on doesn't mean it wasn't memorable. Just the fact that there's a thread about it and people are actually replying with knowledge of everything that happened in the performance is proof that they remember the performance.
Point blank, if the performance was not memorable you would be asking questions or be Googling stuff about what happened. If you ask people (who actually saw the show that night) if they remember Gaga bleeding to death on stage at the VMAs and getting crushed by a chandelier, I can guarantee a good portion of them would at least recall it.
What wouldn't be memorable would be the performance by Katy Perry (don't lie, even some of you stans will need to look this up) or what song Green Day sung (don't Google, I'll tell you: East Jesus Nowhere, which is my favourite song on 21st Century Breakdown). Those are examples of performances that only a select few, special people remember. Paparazzi is remembered. This thread and its responses prove it.
Facepalm to so many posts in this thread. Sometimes the stupidity overwhelms me.

If you had to compile a list of 10 iconic VMA performances, surely the Paparazzi performance would be there, no?

Ok for those saying monsters believe everything she does is iconic . Not true. Cause I could probably list a lot of forgettable gaga moments. YOU AND I performance 2011 forgettable. Even GRAMMY 2011 forgettable.. But this is definitely not

Iconic does not equal memorable. People. Paparazzi at the VMAs was memorable, but not iconic.
