She is hugely talented, she does have a lot to prove yet. One album does not make a legend, not to me anyway.

Just listen to "Hometown Glory," arguably one of her better written songs and vocal performances.

That's the first Adele song I heard, back in 2008. And I was immediately sold.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. But what I'm saying is, she will write about whatever she's feeling at the time. During her first album, she was in a tough relationship. Her second album - a breakup. She's not with that guy anymore, and it doesn't seem like she cares much about him anymore, so I can imagine her transitioning her lyrical content. But not too much. What do most AC/singer-songwriter artists sing about anyway?

What exactly sets her apart from the it girl titles though? Not saying she is but I'd like to know Wat a fan thinks

True, it's actually ironically helping Adele that she is a bit overweight because people are having a wank over how non-shallow they are for, the horror, embracing a singer who doesn't look like an hourglass.

I'm not sure what you're asking. What makes her different from artists like her or artists who have more mainstream appeal? I'm not exactly sure who the "it girls" are.

Oops I forgot Norah was part of the one million club, yet surprisingly she's as relevant as Limp Bizkit.
Norah's critical/commercial success doesn't make her a cultural/musical relic and the same applies to Adele.
While Adele is bound to continue having commercial succes due to the fact that she offers the the public relief from Dr. Luke's monopolization of radio, this doesn't necessarily translate into longevity. Until Adele becomes both more relatable and entertaining... she will only be the Voice of 2011.

Trying to bait Xtina stans with this is a fail. Because regardless, Xtina is certified. She's up there with the Whitney's, Aretha's, Patti's, and Celine's. And there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. You can say she oversing and all that crap but it's done. Her voice is iconic and heavily copied by raising singers. Adele has a long way to go before she is considered the voice of anything. Xtina paid her dues and every major singer has complimented her voice. So none of your opinions matter.
Yeah, for today's statures, Xtina has bad technical skills. But other than that, Xtina snatch the girrals easily. Her range, her versatility, the power and depth of her voice is unbelievable. Every great singer is gonna have a compliant about their voice. So get over this, "Oh, I got to shade Xtina every change I get" crap. That tells me that you other stans see her as a threat.

And that's fine, too. That's why she will always be accepted in her niche market. I'm sure Norah Jones isn't complaining.
And believe it or not, but chances are some of these current "entertaining" pop girls probably won't have much longevity either. Funny thing is, unlike Adele, they won't have a niche market to run to when pop radio moves on to the next generic girl or gimmick.

But has Xtina ever dominated - critically & commercially - like Adele is right now? Was she ever the pop artist that her generation was listening to the most, while also getting the most praise? Again your answer should have nothing to do w/ whether you like Adele or Xtina.

One album in one year does not represent a generation. She may be the voice of 2011, but not of the generation. If she keeps it coming, then it could get to that.

I never said she couldn't pull a Norah Jones. I don't even think they are that similar. I don't remember "Don't Know Why" being the biggest hit of 2002.
And I don't know if this is ignorance just on forums or what, but people act like Norah Jones is flopping to death. Her last album sold 1.1 million copies just in the U.S. She may not be popular, but it's stupid to pretend that the woman is flopping, looking for jobs at McDonald's or something.

I could see her holding a place similar to Sade where she continues to sell well and be highly respected, but at some point people will stop being all obsessed with her. I have liked her since her debut and it has only gotten better...but I think Adelemania will die down

Girral, what are you talking about critically and commercially. Okay, let's get this straight. Britney made a good point recently; just because something doesn't sell or is reviewed greatly, doesn't mean it's bad. Not saying Xtina's work never sold or is bad. Her 1st album and Stripped sold massively WW, so what's your point?
Your argument is null and void because it comes from a place of personal dislike. People like you have always been around trying to bring this girl down for whatever reason.
And yes, Xtina was dominating like Adele is now sweetie. Her 1st album alone dominated. Hell, Beautiful is an Iconic song and probably will never be touched. You're trying to find every excuse to downplay Xtina and it's really transparent. Xtina, critics, and nor did her fans have to give her this, "Voice of our generation" title. It was giving to her by her peers. So, until another, superior artist comes out and says, "Adele is the voice of our generation," then this argument holds no weight.

I'm aware of norahs sales, she sells within her adult fanbase /niche, I wud say Amy but it wudnt make the same point, and with that being said Adele cant be given any lasting titles yet, we have no idea where she'll go after this era but it will undoubtedly be lower
