It doesn't matter if there's writing credit (they are fake most of the time or the theme is chosen by the label, anyway so where's the artistry ? Anyone with a thesaurus can do it) or if they have a good voice live. At the end of the day y'all are worshipping manufactured puppets and that's what it is.
What makes pop star successful products are a viable image that peopple can identify, with and catchy songs. Talent is the least important thing. (Look at Madonna, for example).
Also as other people said Rihanna didn't pionner the remote controlled pop star because it has always existed.
Along with Britney (who I love to death but for other reasons than most people), she's probably the most obvious in recent times, I guess...
