Making the sales around that time, the peak of album sales basically, look less impressive today if the artist can't maintain it.
Beyonce has proven she has actual lasting power. Her albums can still go 2x platinum after all this time in the game, and she can outgross her own tours with ease. No deal in Vegas necessary.

This!! I mean honestly ask yourself, would you trade selling over lets just say 80 million albums for a short career that ended many years ago? I'd rather have longevity, success, impact and critical acclaim, respect and a long career. That's why Madonna is able to still tour and have the highest grossing tours at 54yrs, because of her longevity. No one cares if you sold x amount of records damn near 20yrs ago.
The gp cares about what's relevant and successful now, Bey and Pink are the only girls to make it out of the early 00s era and still relevant, successful and competing with the 20 somethings. The other girls were not so lucky Alicia Keys, Ashanti, Nelly Futardo, Shakira, Britney and Xtina.
