Celeb News: Gaga says she started the trend of being "Avant-Garde"

I don't know that I describe anything Gwen did as being avant-garde, certainly not as it pertained to her music videos.
I'm not sure I would call most of her fashion that, either. Quirky isn't necessarily avant-garde (I'm tempted to call her style more Bohemian).
At any rate, there wasn't a notable trend where everyone was screaming "oh, you're doing Gwen Stefani" with a lot of other artists.

If she's talking about MUSIC, she is no avant-gardist in that aspect.

No shade because I love Gaga but how can she talk about stupid metaphors when she said: Don't be a drag, just be a queen.

'Bad Romance' didn't piss anybody off, at al. Maybe it pissed off a couple of [other] artists, but it didn't piss off any actual people. It was just a really great pop song. This ['Born This Way'] was the first time that an outfit wasn't what pissed people off about me. Do you know how exciting that is for someone like me? The only thing that made me controversial before was the fact that my show had no heel. Suddenly, I put out 'Born This Way', the lyrics were really literal, and there was a huge backlash in the United States. Suddenly I'm not controversial because of my shoes, or controversial because of my clothes. I'm controversial because of my music.

WHich artists did she piss off?
Gurl Gags I hate when you shade another artists without naming them

She doesn't address Madonna or any artist for that matter, specially not the ones before her, I'm sure she is aware that Madonna has had Avant-garde ish music. But that doesn't mean they made it "trendy", because they didn't.

well how much music has become "avant garde" after gaga then? Now I'm not saying gagas fashion or music isn't avant garde but she hasn't made it trendy.

You're 100% correct... but that doesn't mean they made it "trendy".
What Gaga is talking about, is the moment the released a song that would be considered Avant-garde a surge of other artist came out with similar styles.

Right. Like Sats said, there's a difference between avant-garde and haute couture.

Lol, and no, I don't think you could really call any of Gaga's music avant-garde, except for maybe the phonetic repetition hooks.

Well, though that isn't entirely true, you have to admit she DID capitalize on it greatly. She started talking about Born This Way, and suddenly you've got songs like Firework and We R Who We R blowing up the airwaves. Granted, we don't know how long ago those songs were written, but you can be sure Born This Way was written way earlier. So while she didn't START the 'trend', she definitely made it more mainstream than Katy/Ke$ha would have done single handed.

Honestly though, sometimes Gagaloo should keep her mouth shut.

I do think once GaGa hit the scene and had tremendous success, other artists starting to up their fashion game. So, give her credit in that aspect. There is always someone who does that, and nothing is wrong with that.
But as far as the music goes, what's so "avant-garde" about GaGa's music? And I don't really hear the other girls doing what she is doing. Katy, Rihanna, Britney and Ke$ha just makes basic dance-pop music and works with the most generic producers of the moment.
