I'm going to Amsterdam again next month . Sadly not on my own and that part annoys me.

I've been wanting to visit for a while now and next year would be the first time I actually have an opportunity to go. I don't really mind being alone (I actually prefer it) so I think it would be great

It was pretty cool.
One week is about the right amount of time to spend in London I'd say. You'll be able to cover all the touristy sights but also get a feel for the city and check out some museums, maybe a concert/play/musical, do some shopping. I also think going to London by yourself is a huge plus, as it can be such a pain to navigate busy streets and the tube if you're more than one person and have to stay together.

Currently planning my mother in-law's trip to Canada.

Well at least once you graduate you'll probably be able to get a job with a travel agency and get discounts

Not just discounts, but tour companies will pay to bring you to their country so you can sell it to customers better. (As in a FREE trip to a new country to learn about it.)
My friend went on a 10 day tour of Turkey and paid zero money for it. (Just had to file a report.)

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I've been to big cities before and I love anything transit related, so I wouldn't mind using the tube and having to learn my way around. Everyone I know is like the complete opposite though.
I really don't wanna go somewhere with a friend/family member and have them constantly complain or be disrespectful to the culture. Some of the things I've heard them say...

I wouldn't wanna go by myself though...the problem is my friends aren't necessarily on the same wavelength as me, so either wouldn't want to do the same sort of things or just don't have the time and money right now.

That's exactly why I wanna travel alone. I wouldn't want to wait on anyone else to do something that I wanna do. That's not gonna stop me from exploring the world.
If you haven't traveled much then I can understand, but if you have I think it's something that's at least worth thinking about.

Honestly, I'd be way too scared to go alone. Going alone would give me the best experience and the most personal growth but I don't have the confidence or independence to do it.

Great thread, i love geography and travelling.
If any of you are dying to travel but dont wanna do it alone, just go for it. Last July I went to Europe by myself, I was with a tour group and guide but I still went into the experience not knowing anyone while a lot of people in the group were travelling with friends/cousins/siblings. Before going I was nervous about being alone, but when I got there and began the experience, I realized that i would rather be alone. I got to walk around the cities by myself when I wanted to, I did what I wanted to do whenever. If you're with someone else then you dont get that oppurtunity, they may not want to do everything u want to and vice versa. I feel like travelling in other countries with someone from home would actually be a hindrance, you meet amazing people in your tour group who you dont have to be side by side with the entire trip, plus none of my friends at the time had the interest or funds to go to Europe.
I went to Amsterdam, Paris and London and it was amazing. It felt great walking around Amsterdam and London by myself and just taking in the culture and atmosphere.

Maybe start with small trips? Like, go away over the weekend somewhere that's not too far. And then start working your way up to longer trips to more foreign places.

This is the company that i booked my trip through. They have great trips and deals. Airfare and lodging is included in the total fee, you have a tour guide with you throughout the trip. Anyone ages 18-28 can sign up, you dont need to be enrolled in college to travel with them.
Im hoping to go on their trip to Italy, France and Spain next summer

Honestly I'm pretty nervous about going alone too, but I don't think it'll be that bad. You'll never know if you never try. My parents really don't want me to go but I'm trying to convince them to let me.

I just discovered this website a couple of weeks ago! They don't have a comparable trip to the one I'm trying to plan next summer, but I'll definitely look into it for other future trips. I really like the idea.
Your experience is basically what I expect it to be like.

Downside is it doesn't pay that great, and you mostly work for commission. But the perks sure are great.

They really are. I'd be so happy doing that too, I don't think I would mind the pay.

Yeah, the pay doesn't bother me. As long as I'm enjoying what I do, and I can afford to pay my bills. I'm happy.

Favorite city? San Francisco, definitely + Los Angeles and Prague (gotta love my country)
Favorite country? USA, I was there for 3 months this summer and couldn't love it more. I'm coming back next summer and I'm so excited already!
Places you wanna visit? Any US city I haven't been to yet tbh, mostly San Diego and Chicago; New Zealand, Australia, Finland and Iceland.
