Umbrella gave birth not only to one of the biggest song of the 2000's but it gave birth to one of the most profilic Pop Star of all time, Rihanna. Firework was just another big hit from the Teenage Dream era.
Umbrella may have not sold as much as Firework but it is more impactful.
I genuinely can say if around a person, while holding an umbrella, I started singing the ella ella hook and the that person didn't continued with me.
Umbrella is on RS's top 500 greatest songs of all time, among the few pop songs on that list.
Umbrella gave birth to the Rihanna curse.
Quote:
The song's reign at number one in the United Kingdom occurred as the country was hit by extreme rainfall and flooding, which led the British national newspaper The Sun to humorously suggest the two events were related, with the media referring to it as the "Rihanna Curse." The tabloid also highlighted the date of the single's video shot which was Friday the 13th (April 13, 2007), adding further coincidence of the curse. Before the single's release on May 14, the temperature in London was relatively high, reaching 20 °C. However, just a day after the release, "severe weather warnings hit the headlines". An article in The Sun it urged readers to join the campaign to knock the song off the chart's top spot, suggesting to readers several other songs to download instead, all of which shared the theme of sunshine or summer

The same happened in Romania where "Umbrella" hit the stations in the nation during the summer. That summer was in its first half the hottest and driest period of time in Romania since 1946.[98] As the song reached the top ten and then its number-one peak, the country experienced the worst storms and most pouring rains in its history. As the song was losing positions in the charts, the storm ended and the temperatures lowered step-by-step.

In November 2007 MADtv's Nicole Parker and Keegan-Michael Key, who were depicting U.S. Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama respectively, performed a parody of "Umbrella"

Krystal Weedon, one of the central characters in JK Rowling's The Casual Vacancy was very apt at doing Jay-Z's rap from Umbrella during their rowing competition bus trips. Umbrella, to the shock of the attendees, is also played at the church during the funeral service of Barry Fairbrother who used to coach the girls' rowing team prior to his death. Similarly, the song was also played at the funeral service of another character.
There are numerous musical acts that covered and re-recorded the song for their album and released as lead singles. And there are so many more

It's so-called uzurtpation. Umbrellas have nothing to do with Rihanna's song, like come on! If so, then at least 5 billion people every year on the New Year's Eve are celebrating to Katy's Firework song, not to mention we also have 4th of July and thousands of gay parades. Umbrella did nothing to gay communities. Firework did wonders. It's an anthem. Iconic revolutionary anthem. There's nothing iconic and impactful about Umbrella except the Ella Ella Eh Eh part. You can sing it in every language without making a mistake

Please I won't even try to argue with a member like you that seems to ignore every receipt. I don't care about your gay communities, I don't care about Firework and Katy. I only know Umbrella was, is and forever will be as the bigges, more impactful song. Don't quote me again with your so called shade. :

Thankfully, it's only your personal opinion. Numbers say otherwise. Firework sold more, has more video views and, well, was a bigger commercial success. If people think Umbrella is more iconic, they should've bought the single when it charted.

I'm speechless in front of you, really.
There are many receipts in my post above and you choose to only quote 2 lines.
Umbrella received critical acclaim where Firework received some favorable reviews. Umbrella was at the beggining of the digital era, Firework was right in the middle of it.
And not you bringing Firework's video views Like what even

Firework had longevity.
No one remembered Umbrella when fall came. It didn't even make it to #1 on BB Year-End chart.
No one thinks about Rihanna curse, no one even uses this expression. like come on.
Firework, duh. Everyone saying Umbrella was released earlier that's why it sold less is nonsense. Don't Stop Believin' was released 1981 and it sold 6 million digital copies, bye. The truth is that if Umbrella did had a better impact then it would have had longevity!
Firework remains unbothered, it will always rise every 4th of July and New Year! That's timeless impact!

What kind of lies
And 4th of July is only celebrated in the U.S, song the song like the person who sang it remain local
Yes Umbrella had more impact than Firework in the past and overall but that is not what the OP is asking.
Umbrella is not remembered now. When people think of Rihanna they think of We Found Love, Diamonds, perhaps Only Girl and Where Have You Been, etc. Umbrella is forgotten.
Firework is still one of Katy's main big hits along with Roar, E.T. and Dark Horse.
The answer to the question (which is bigger NOW) is Firework.
I agree with you, but you can't just add "Umbrella" and think that it's about Rihanna Write Rihanna - Umbrella and you'll see the result will be different (because Umbrella is a common used word), even though it's still more searched for than Firework by Katy.

How can you say that when I posted the Coldplay video. How is not remembered now?
Coldplay is a rock band and their fans probably have not so much connections with pop music world but the whole stadium was still singing with her.
How can you honestl say it's not remembered?
