August Alsina, Trey Songz and Omarion wouldn't be singing a bunch of LTWYL/Skylar Gray clearly meant to be Top 40 crossover sounding songs.
Plus, they are singers. Nicki is a rapper so the transition is automatically more drastic and noticeable.
On top of that, I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that Nicki said this album would be important to Hip Hop and back to her Hip Hop roots. People are excepting super Urban material because of it and I highly doubt that included Nicki singing over mid-tempo ballads. People were expecting hardcore rap, not arguable crossover-esque material. If it wasnt for that people might not see it as pop as they do but it seems that way in comparison to what people were expecting/what she implied.
