I think album deserves at least 77 but 70 would be amazing(considering the circumstances LOL).But I think her final score will be around 65.Anyways,can't wait to see what Pitchfork has to say about it.

It's pop music, not social commentary or an after-school special. I don't consider myself a materialistic person, but this stuff is still fun to think about sometimes. It's called escapism. I don't derive my values and morals from pop music. Weird criticism.

The problem with Lana is that she - and her music - belong in a different age. One where the paps only saw what you wanted them to see, where listeners only heard what you wanted them to hear, and the general public weren't so damn cynical. The irony, of course, is that Born To Die is probably the most stunningly refreshing album you'll hear all year. We don't care how she got here; but we for one are glad she did.

This review has me FUMING.

This writer is obviously intelligent, does he have some sort of vendetta? Its so pathetic, he makes these outrageous accusations about Lana but what evidence does he have to show for it? The only reference he makes to her career is the SNL performance... is that ALL he knows about her?

A career is not defined by a nervous breakthrough performance, that doesnt somehow make her not an artist, driven solely by "the hype machine." He writes about her "questionable feminism" and "questionable patriotism" but how is that really relevant? Sexual politics might dominate the album but how does that affect her artistry? He's confusing her character with somehow being a puppet for Interscope

Here we go again,another review full of over analyzing everything but the album.But I'm glad they praised "Million Dollar Man,"so deserving,my favorite. They do have few points there.I'll quote some.

And then there's her voice, with so much potential and yet unrefined. Her courage is commendable, even if she thinks she's got a way better tone than she does. But when she maneuvers that tone well, there's something there. She pinches her vocal cords like Betty Boop for "Off to the Races" -- and paraphrases "Lolita" lover Humbert Humbert. She goes low and often it feels forced, but occasionally, as on "Million Dollar Man," she nails it. Del Rey has listened to her fair share of Amy Winehouse, but gets nowhere near the emotion within the late British singer's voice. Del Rey's attempts are without the honesty or devil-may-care feel.

This lack of belief in in her protagonist is what ultimately dooms "Born to Die." Lana Del Rey isn't nearly as convincing a fiction as David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust, Madonna Ciccone’s name-shortened boy-toy persona or even Taylor Swift's character, "Taylor Swift." And by the end of "Born to Die," the experience has become tiring and woozy, like if you'd taken a half-dozen Ambiens when you'd put the record on -- and now you’re getting very, very sleepy.
