During BTW's time, iTunes is only available in 23/24 countries. Of course, Taylor can easily do 25, or more than that, now that iTunes is now available in 50+ countries..

That may be true but Gaga was the biggest artist in the world at that time and Taylor has always been branded as a "local" artist so its just funny that a "local" artist can actually be #1 in more countries than Gaga was #1 in. Although Gaga had far fewer countries to have the potential to be #1 in that doesn't take away the incredible numbers that Taylor is putting up with this song and lets not forget that the song hasn't even been released in all major markets just yet

I was pretty sure that Gaga's record had been broken a while ago, seeing as how there's over 50 iTunes stores now compared to 23 when BTW was released.

Well considering that in some countries you have to sell 10 singles and you're already #1, there's nothing to drag about but we gotta admit that she's getting global.

Gaga's record was broken in the album era when MDNA when #1 in almost all of the iTunes stores.

Why is everyone in here complaining about the 23 countries fact. It's true that there were only 23 countries at the time, but it it's so "easy" to do this now, why is Taylor the first one to accomplish this even after all of the other "global stars" that have released singles since.

And Madonna broke Gaga's album #1 iTunes record, not the single, and for the same reasons.

It's way more easy to top 24 countries now than when Gaga released Born This Way tbh (She topped all the countries that had iTunes in that moment)

And that's the truth. There's an iTunes store for Sri Lanka. You know what the #1 song has sold in the past day? 1 copy. In the Philippines, Taylor is #1 with 34 copies sold and her nearest competition has sold 14. It's easier to get #1 in countries where people don't use iTunes nearly as much, and that's the case with several of the newer iTunes stores.

I think it's great that she's doing so well, but people should stop bringing Gaga into this when the situation now is far different form the one in February 2011.
