Discussion: Why are Kelly and Pink not critically acclaimed/respected?

Both of them have good/great singles but their albums tend to be so-so as a whole and they do not bring anything new to the table. And their lyrics are very basic despite how catchy and empowering their songs may be.

I would disagree that they are not respected, I just don't think they've done anything memorable for awhile. All of their singles in the past 5 years or so have been pretty basic to be quite honest. I mean U+Ur Hand, MLWSWY, ****in Perfect, I Do Not Hook Up, Mr. Know It All, Raise Your Glass, Already Gone? These are all generic songs that fit perfectly with the rest of the top 40.
Basically, P!nk and Kelly don't make the list for the same reason Katy and Ke$ha don't, none of their recent songs standout in a sea of clones.
I'm not saying that P!nk and Kelly are on Ke$ha or Katy's level, they're definitely more respected, just their songs are at the moment, minus the success.

Notice something: Pink and Kelly have each had ONE massive era, where they sold million of records, had endless hit singles, won Grammys and became worldwide pop stars. For the rest of their careers, they've been comfortably perched on the B+ list. What's the common thread? On M!ssundaztood and Breakaway, respectively, they each did something entirely against trend for pop music at the time—the "edgy, confessional bad girl" thing and soaring rock-ified anthems—that audiences were apparently ready for and subsequently embraced.
All the major recognition and respect they get is for those signature eras, because they've never really moved past them. Sure, "Who Knew" may be one of the most gorgeous pop ballads of the decade, and "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)" is the biggest hook Kelly has sung since "Since U Been Gone," but when an artist has pretty much been using the same persona and sound for years, it's hard to stand up and truly take notice of their new material. "Countdown," "1+1," "The Edge of Glory," "Till the World Ends"—these songs are like nothing that Beyonce, Gaga or Britney have done before, so it's much more exciting for critics to laud them and add those tracks to their respective diva's list of classic hits.

P!nk definitely deserves some recognition. Get The Party Started, Just Like A Pill, Trouble, U+Ur Hand, Who Knew, So What, Sober and Perfect are some of the best pop songs I've ever heard in my life and her albums are always fantastic as well. I'm glad to see she got a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance for Perfect this year well deserved.
Kelly deserves some recognition...for Breakaway. It's one of the best pop records I've ever heard and I live for Since U Been Gone, Behind These Hazel Eyes, Because of You and Breakaway itself but it was everything after that is what is so tragic. The mediocre ******** she's putting out now is so disappointing considering the things she is capable of as seen in the Breakaway era.

Kelly's glory days seem to be long gone.
Mr.Know It All was an atrocious lead single, the JTWYA comparisons notwithstanding, and apart from Honesty, the rest of the album sounds like the writers sat & thought, "Hmmm... what should a KC record sound like?"
Decent, but so dull, repetitive and predictable, both lyrically & vocally.
As for P!nk, she's fine, i guess.

I feel like Pink has the "celebrity" lifestyle that I would want
she gets the #1 hits/great sales in albums and singles
her personal life is rarely ever touched by anyone bc no one really cares other than the stans (look @ her pregnancy no one really invaded her life over that)

Pink music is meh !
It's the same pop rock with heard over a Decade. She doesnt involve. It's always the same. She's like a Disney girl with more meaningful songs.

I'm a Kelly fan, but I'll give you the true tea.
Kelly's music is good, safe pop music. That's it. Aside from My December, which is criminally underrated, her catalogue consist of by-the-numbers pop/rock. (**Though I am very happu about the Stronger album, since it seems to be the most real she's been on an album since MD.) It's all very nice to listen to, but nothing innovative and nothing to make her stand out. When Kelly writes her music she'll write about a relationship with her friends or something but then turn it into a bf/gf type relationship just so that the song can be more relatable. I also feel like, instead of trying to make excellent pop music and push boundaries, she's settling for middle-of-the-road pop because she doesn't have too much respect for the genre. (this is all my own assumptions based on things she's said in interviews.)
As for Pink, I feel she was on her way to critical acclaim up until the IND era, but somewhere in the middle she went back to the same generic pop music. I really don't know w/ Pink since I don't follow her.
I know stans of "talented artist" (Kelly, Pink) often look down on artist who have no raw talent (Rihanna, Britney, Ke$ha, Katy) but really, what good is your musical talent as a pop musician, if your music isn't good?

This thread is going down when kelly's wdky smashes and it's #1 everywhere. And i feel some of you guys are hypocrites. Had the breakaway era(kelly's 5 singles) not smashed every where back then, will you guys say how frigging flawless that era was? And dead @ some of you guys saying how stronger(album) is overly produced. IT's her least overly produce album ever.
I do think that pink is much more acclaimed and respected than any artists even though she's under the radar. Just look at her god damn worldwide album sales! Her greatest hits is closing to 1 million in US already. who is able to do that?

Nobody remembers them. They make the most generic, boring pop/rock music and have shown no growth or variety in 10+ years. They're just cute radio playlist fillers.

It's Alecia Moore. What do you mean she isn't critically acclaimed or respected? Her albums have positive reception and critics rave about her whenever she performs.

It's simple in my mind:
They are too popular for the snobby, hipster votes.
They are not popular enough to bring in high traffic to a site though.
Its really a shame, since they are both so talented and have very solid discographies.
Sometimes I wonder if it's looks that are holding these two back. They certainly have the top ten hits, sales, and talent to have just as good stats if not better than some of the current pop girls.
Of course, I suppose they only match up best on paper for some reason though.

They don't contribute to pop culture. They're the artists that the geeks and outcasts at school like, whereas the cool kids like Beyonce, Rihanna, GaGa.
