Though, Her brand of comedy wasn't something I agreed with. She's the very personification of bullying and it would have been nice to see Joan remembered for good things rather than scathing remarks she made about people.

The thing with insult comedy is you don't attack somebody weak. You attack/insult those in power like politicians or the rich and famous. When she "went after" people, they were able bodied adults. Sure like most every comedian out there she made jokes about disabilities or whatever but it's not in a mean spirit.
Sometimes comedians do kick somebody when they're down but every comedian has hit a low point or is/was in a dark place. They've been there. They've been down. They rose up and they have a sense of humor, a sense of self that to somebody that "doesn't get it" won't understand.
I think that you can't see the real light that life has to offer until you've spent some time in the darkness.
