All of this is just.............. ![psyduck](images/smilies/images/smilies/psyduck.gif)
1. Turn Me On is in no way iconic. It got its ass slapped away by Starships
2. Nicki's pop songs are bigger than her hip-hop songs because pop is the it genre. Just like how the world has fluctuated from Rap, to Disco, to R&B, to any genre you can think of. Right now it's dance pop. Success =/= quality no matter how many times you try to spin it, and her hip-hop songs will be her most remembered work.
3. Comparing Starships to Katy and Rihanna's recent singles is a blatant reach. They're both suffering from overexposure. Let's not today.

"Turn Me On" isn't iconic, and the songs she does will not turn her into some pop culture phenomenon and will not guarantee her Mariah/Madonna longevity.
|
Exactly. It's harder to become a Rap icon than a Pop one, which is why it'll be an accomplishment if she was the former.
Her Pop records won't win Grammy's.

She can experiment with music all she wants. No one said she shouldn't, but she shouldn't forget where she came from. The pop crowd is the ficklest things ever. When the pop hits dry up, they move on to the next hot thing. That's why artists build followings in niche markets. He needs to stop throwing the idea around that Nicki needs pop hits to be remembered. She needs good music to be remembered. Anyone can get a hit.

I agree - Nicki needs good music to be remembered.
at the same time, it is not fair or accurate to characterize pop music as "throwaway" (the Ke$ha shade wasn't cute, either).

Turn Me On iconic? Being a rap legend being a small accomplishment? Katy and Robyn more accomplished than rap legends? Pop songs and being like Katy and Robyn building her legacy? Katy and Rihanna building a legacy off of their Pop hits?
I'm sorry. No, no, no and no. ![rip](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRLSmilies/rip_zpsec10ede9.gif)

I think Nicki should cater to both audiences. So that way, we can get Hip Hop Nicki and Pop Nicki at the same time. She shouldn't alienate her Hip Hop audience and make a Pop album. Although, PFRR should've had better cohesion and efficacy. PF was better in the terms of what Nicki should do.

And being regarded as a hip-hop/rap legend is not an easy thing to do. What the.... ![psyduck](images/smilies/images/smilies/psyduck.gif) I'd rather be that than be a forgotten Ke$ha down the line.

WUT. Then why is it that in all interviews she's branding herself as "first female rapper to...." Wasn't it her goal to be a rap icon/mogul from the start?

Personally, I think (in order to keep everyone happy) she should do one of the following:
1. Release the next album with a structure similar to PF:RR, but also release a Hip-Hop mixtape.
2. Release a full-blown Hip-Hop album with 2 SB-esque songs, but release a Pop EP six months later.

Here for the second option!

Nope, I'm insisting that her pop songs sound like Ke$ha throwaway tracks, not that pop music is throwaway and it was more shade to Nicki's pop music and not Ke$ha's. Let's not read too deep into my posts.

I agree, it's got solid lyrics but is capable of being marketed to more than just a hip-hop audience.

Well, let's be honest though. When people bring up Ke$ha to criticize Nicki's music, they're shading Ke$ha. ![rip](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRLSmilies/rip_zpsec10ede9.gif)

The fact that Pink Friday sold 375k first week off of URBAN SINGLES/FEATURES mixed with crazy hype says a lot.
Moment 4 Life sold a lot. She has so many platinum songs and for a rapper that is AMAZING. Another reason why Nicki shines more as a rapper than a pop artist.
|
Exactly. Nicki can find success in hip-hop most definitely. But it's the quality of the track that has to pull the sales in.

Well, in this case, I'm not shading Ke$ha.
But I don't think Ke$ha's music will be considered "iconic" or "legendary" years down the line, and that's not shade.

1. turn me on is a good pop song and will eventually become iconic
2. i didnt say success= quality i said that her pop songs are bigger than her hip-hop songs but her hip-hop songs are much better.
3. the same can be said for nicki too, and plus riri and katy have a much bigger fanbase, and are pop radio queen nicki isnt.
im not arguring im just sharing my opinion no need to get mad. ![:)](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/smile.gif) (p.s. i love that youre a miley stan)
