PEOPLE OF THE YEAR:It's hard to make it to this list. We saw Daniele Donato beat Vanessa Rousso to take #1 on the non-singers list.....however, who would be #1 when we add the singers to the mix? Let's look.
TOP 20 PEOPLE OF THE YEAR:
20. Shandi Finnessey
19. Hayley Williams
18. Dolores O'Riordan
17. Beth Shak
16. Rihanna Fenty
15. Paula Deanda
14. Steven Smith
13. Jaime Dugan
12. Eric Stein
11. Nick Stacevic
10. Dick Donato
9. Hayden Panettiere
8. Carrie Underwood
7. Belinda Peregrin Schull
6. Aly & A.J.
5. Miley Cyrus
4. Jessica Hughbanks
3. Stephanie McIntosh
2. Daniele Donato
1. Ashley Tisdale
Alright, let's get right to it. Note for 50-1 like last year, I'll put random pictures relating to the songs.
40. Ayumi Hamasaki - Talkin 2 Myself (3@1) (554,295) (MWC:#86, IDRL:#40, AIRPLAY:#33)
The 2nd from Ayumi in 2007. This exploded quickly jumping at a #7 debut and topped the chart 3 times in a 5 week span. She is still top 10 on the countdown and has been as high as #2 on the daily airplay chart and is still going strong. Ayumi will try to score the #1 song of the year in 2008.
39. Ashley Tisdale - It's Life (1@1) (567,210) (MWC:#85, IDRL:#39, AIRPLAY:#24)
This is her 3rd song or so on the endyear countdown. Like Ayumi, Ashley took off like a rocket hell-bent on a mission and topped the daily airplay chart a whopping 24 times, and yet this isn't the most from her. This topped the countdown once and debuted a solid #20. She will be one of the favorites to take 2008's top honor now that Stephanie McIntosh will probably be in a transition year until her new single is announced.
38. Hayden Panettiere - Your New Girlfriend (#2) (575,388) (MWC:#60, IDRL:#37, AIRPLAY:#40)
Despite not being relatively strong in 2007, Hayden had probably the most consistent run of them all. Your New Girlfriend never topped in 2007 but used the momentum she had in 2006 where she finished #16 and stayed flat-out strong.
37. Rihanna - Umbrella (Original & Remixes) (1@1) (584,229) (MWC:#39, IDRL:#38, AIRPLAY:#39)
The curious thing here is that many speculated this would be more dominant, but in the Stephanie McIntosh-Dolores O'Riordan-Ashley Tisdale war, Rihanna failed to do better with Umbrella and only topped once. Still, this is only the first of 3 top 100 entries from Rihanna so this is far from over for her.
36. Girls Aloud v.s. Sugababes - Walk This Way (#2) (588,880) (MWC:#83, IDRL:#36, AIRPLAY:#35)
The dual single got a ton of buzz as Walk This Way soared to #2 on both airplay, countdown and fan support. However, they weren't strong enough to hold off the competition for #1. Keisha told the MWC, 'We try to stay at an even-keel regardless of our situation, working with Girls Aloud on this song was truly interesting. Doing a cover of a classic is not easy to do.' Cheryl followed up saying, 'You wanna try covering Walk This Way? Use the same setting Run-DMC/Aerosmith & Ja Rule/Nelly/Sum 41 and then come back to us then.'
35. Carrie Underwood - So Small (#7) (619,358) (MWC:#37, IDRL:#35, AIRPLAY:#34)
Carrie had a solid 2007 with So Small, Wasted, I'll Stand By You and Before He Cheats. So Small has been a steady presence and got to #7 on both airplay and countdown. 2007 could very well have been her year if it weren't for the competition, you can make an argument as her being the 2nd best among all U.S. singers, trailing Ashley Tisdale.
34. Muse - Supermassive Black Hole (1@1) (663,588) (MWC:#24, IDRL:#32, AIRPLAY:#38)
Muse has their best showing ever on the endchart at #34. Supermassive Black Hole had a creative video and they were often underestimated as they had several songs make the countdown. This is currently #100 on the MWC but winds up #34 for the year.
33. Alexisonfire - Rough Hands (1@1) (677,835) (MWC:#21, IDRL:#33, AIRPLAY:#36)
Alexisonfire represents Canada well. They scored their first ever #1 hit with Rough Hands and soared to #1 on the daily airplay chart twice. You can find it very hard to beat this band in the clutch, especially considering they broke through this year.
32. Silverchair - Straight Lines (#2) (699,355) (MWC:#19, IDRL:#34, AIRPLAY:#37)
Australia's best band. This was the surprise song of the year to an extent. If this hit #1 all 6 times instead of Ashley, this song would've been MUCH higher. Still, 6 times at #2 is nothing to sneeze at.
31. Paula Deanda - Easy (2@1) (749,377) (MWC:#51, IDRL:#31, AIRPLAY:#31)
Paula Deanda really struggled to have a good endgame. Easy also took a long time to get going but finally took off with the video, and a few days on top of TRL:Only Billboard Matters. This topped twice on the countdown and looked like she was in control of the Artist Of The Year picture, but faded fast when Ashley Tisdale got red-hot and thus Paula stumbled to 3rd best among U.S. singers.
Speaking of which, here's the best of the USA singers: (not bands)
10. Mandy Moore
9. Cori Yarckin
8. Hilary Duff
7. Miley Cyrus
6. Angela Ammons
5. Nicole Willard
4. Hayden Panettiere
3. Paula Deanda
2. Carrie Underwood
1. Ashley Tisdale
Tomorrow, 30-21 on the countdown and a few surprises coming.
Thanks, I take it 10 at a time not trying to rush and leaving extra input. I've done the Endyear commentary since 2002.
30. Melissa Schuman - There For Me (1@1) (775,300) (MWC:#43, IDRL:#29, AIRPLAY:#30)
This ex-Dream singer soared to stardom in 2000 when He Loves U Not charted. Then of course When I Get There at one point was at one point the IDRL record holder for longest #1 streak back in 2001. 6 years later, Melissa graces the chart with There For Me feat. Nick Carter. This topped the chart once but played a big role in leading the USA to beating the World in the race to most #1's *lead the way for Paramore and Ashley topping a combined 25 times since There For Me debuted*
29. Delta Goodrem - In This Life (#2) (778,992) (MWC:#28, IDRL:#30, AIRPLAY:#32)
An Aussie has it made in the shade, the 2nd from Delta Goodrem makes it shine at #29. Not many expected this would be high because of how late it came out, but Delta took off like she usually did the last 3 years and shined bright. Since 2005 when Little Too Late debuted, she has hit #1 10+ times, hit #2 with this song, several other top 20 hits and so forth. The airplay was favorable to an extent and got as high as #2 on the daily airplay chart three times. All of Australia's hopes are now on Stephanie. This is the 3rd consecutive year Delta had a song finish in the top 30.
28. Paula Deanda - Walk Away (4@1) (832,501) (MWC:#35, IDRL:#28, AIRPLAY:#29)
Last year she was #28 with this song, again she is #28 with this song. Walk Away spent 4 times on top in 2007 but all of them in the beginning of the year. The acoustic version made its way just months later but could only jump as high as #4. The acoustic version never made it past #15 on the daily airplay chart while the original version got to #3 in January on that list. This is Paula's best spot in 2007, somewhat disappointing.
27. Stephanie McIntosh - A Change Is Coming (#2) (845,097) (MWC:#16, IDRL:#27, AIRPLAY:#27)
Stephanie McIntosh has 2 more after this one. This might be the non-single of the year to some. She hit #2 with this song in early December and has been holding strong on the charts all year. Congrats to her on a great run with such an unnoticed song.
26. Meg & Dia - Roses (2@1) (858,233) (MWC:#38, IDRL:#26, AIRPLAY:#28)
Meg & Dia barely dented the chart with Monster that hit #10 much earlier in the year. With Roses, they did a lot better say.....2 times on top? This hit #1 in the summer and remained solid all throughout the year. They may not be the strongest duo on this list, but they're proving they got what it takes to challenge the likes of Aly & A.J. and The Veronicas in 2008.
25. Rihanna - Don't Stop The Music (#3) (884,220) (MWC:#13, IDRL:#25, AIRPLAY:#25)
Rihanna still has another on the way. While 2006 didn't turn out quite to be the way she imagined, 2007 was a much stronger year for her as a singer. Don't Stop The Music stayed in the top 40 of the chart for a great portion of 2007 and ends up here at #25.
24. Shiny Toy Guns - Don't Cry Out (#2) (892,771) (MWC:#11, IDRL:#24, AIRPLAY:#26)
Shiny Toy Guns have another on the way. Don't Cry Out has the female lead doing the vocals in this song. This was hard to beat and really popular airplay-wise, eventually hitting #2 on the daily airplay chart. One of the more underrated songs.
23. Dolores O'Riordan - When We Were Young (2@1) (945,288) (MWC:#15, IDRL:#23, AIRPLAY:#23)
Dolores still has one to go. When We Were Young is overshadowed by the run Ordinary Day. This was Dolores's 2nd straight top 10 debut en route to her snagging the MWC Comeback Of The Year honors. This topped twice, but never could stay on solid ground.
22. Belinda - If We Were (#2) (967,200) (MWC:#10, IDRL:#21, AIRPLAY:#22)
Spanish sensation Belinda still has another coming. If We Were is upbeat, catchy and finished 2007 #10 in the MWC points race. This hit #1 several times on daily airplay chart, but never got past #2 on the countdown which kind of hampered her pursuit at 2007's Top Honors.
21. Three Days Grace - Never Too Late (#4) (998,355) (MWC:#25, IDRL:#22, AIRPLAY:#21)
I want you to count to 10, and think of 3DG's past rivals. They haven't been this high on the endyear chart since 2004's Just Like You. This hit #4 on the countdown and #2 on the daily airplay chart after spending 6 times there. This Canadian band only had one mainstay on but it was enough for #21
HALL OF FAME:Rachel Farris - It's All You (first time since 2002 this song didn't make the end of the year countdown)
UP NEXT:The top 20 songs of the year, including Hilary Duff, Aly & A.J. and Juli. Don't miss it.
17. Anthony Kerty - The biggest Britney Spears fan here IMO (not Xtian or Mazen). Anthony has been here for 4 1/2 years and is often considered an overlooked poster when it comes to popularity. He represents his home country well.
We've covered 100-21, here's a recap in case you missed it.

21. Three Days Grace - Never Too Late (#4) (998,355) (MWC:#25, IDRL:#22, AIRPLAY:#21)
Let's go!
20. Juli - Dieses Leben (#8) (1,103,356) (MWC:#82, IDRL:#17, AIRPLAY:#18)
OK, I know Juli didn't have a high MWC rank with this song compared to others.....BUT, Sugababes in 2002-2003 anyone? Juli's impact did what Sugababes did for the Sugababes/Girls Aloud rivalry and various other International bands. This song however was the start of the Foreign Language song train. Dieses Leben also had a great video and was red-hot on my airplay chart for 8 months. Hit #8 on the countdown, spent a long time on the chart and left its mark for artists like Christina Sturmer, Tokio Hotel and Belinda. This band is from Germany if you're wondering and they scored the #20 song of the year for their country.
19. Hilary Duff - Stranger (#2) (1,256,321) (MWC:#46, IDRL:#15, AIRPLAY:#20)
Everyone expected Hilary to be on the end-chart, few expected she would be this high with Stranger that never hit #1. This had a ton of airplay and stayed on that list for 6+ months including 1 time on top of the daily airplay chart. Also hit #2 on the countdown and crossed the 50 show mark. Winds up the #19 song of the year.
18. Aly & A.J. - Potential Breakup Song (2@1) (1,342,779) (MWC:#17, IDRL:#19, AIRPLAY:#19)
This deadly duo once again dominated the airplay chart by staying in the daily airplay list for 6 months and 3 stints on top, but did start off VERY slowly before the video finally boosted the support. Aly & A.J. would go on to top the countdown twice and eventually finish the MWC year in #17. Quite a drop-off from last year's #3 finish with Rush in 2006, but they were in a tough spot especially with Ashley Tisdale, Stephanie Mcintosh and Dolores O'Riordan all battling for position. Aly & A.J. takes home the #18 song of the year.
17. Carrie Underwood - Before He Cheats (3@1) (1,456,200) (MWC:#72, IDRL:#20, AIRPLAY:#17)
Displaces Tim McGraw's #30 showing from a few years ago for highest showing by a country singer in this decade. Carrie hit #1 3 times before Stephanie McIntosh took off. Carrie's run was very solid with a 40+ show run and spent several months in the airplay chart by topping that list once. She is gonna have a hard time besting the #17 song of the year but remember, American Idol always seems to have an impact one way or another.
16. Christina Sturmer - Scherbenmeer (1@1) (1,599,250) (MWC:#31, IDRL:#16, AIRPLAY:#16)
Like Juli, Christina Sturmer paved way for the Foreign Language singers. Sturmer makes her 3rd appearance in 2007's end-chart and had a run to remember by racking up a 50+ show run and spent 7 months on the airplay chart. Christina will take home back to her native country of Austria with pride, prestige, 5 times on top with 3 songs combined, and the #16 song of the year.
Coming up next, 15-11. We have Paramore, Lucy Walsh and Miley Cyrus all on the way. Stay tuned.
15. Paramore - Crushcrushcrush (7@1) (1,620,345) (MWC:#27, IDRL:#18, AIRPLAY:#15)
This is the 2nd Paramore appearance of 3. Crushcrushcrush tore the roof off with a whopping 19 times on top of the daily airplay chart. That's enough to take the most for a band, and this song hit #1 on the MWC a whopping 7 times which also is most for a group/band since Dream in 2000-2001. Hayley Williams leads the charge to possibly the front-runner position for bands on the MWC so it remains a battle for the ultimate crown. Paramore takes back with them the #15 song of the year.
14. Lucy Walsh - So Uncool (#3) (1,783,835) (MWC:#20, IDRL:#14, AIRPLAY:#14)
This has to be the biggest shocker of the year. Lucy beats some of the best and shows how tenacious she is. This topped the airplay chart once but spent 5 months on the list, and also got as high as #3 on the countdown. It remains to be seen if she is the real deal, but she is the daughter of a member of The Eagles. She could be one to watch for in 2008, if she has the right strategy. Otherwise, she'll have to settle for the #14 song of 2007.
13. Angela Ammons - The Forbidden Kind (2@1) (1,894,205) (MWC:#8, IDRL:#12, AIRPLAY:#13)
I couldn't find a The Forbidden Kind video so I'm using this one instead. Angela was the feel-good story of 2006 with a 5-year old song in Walking Backwards and people thought she was joking around. She was dead-serious in 2007 with The Forbidden Kind by at one point topping the MWC Points Leaderboard, topping the MWC twice and topping the daily airplay chart 7 times in a 10 month run on that chart. Angela is proud to be taking home the #13 song of the year even though she did finish #8 on the MWC and didn't end up with a strong finish, but it's good enough to keep her top 15.
12. Miley Cyrus - See You Again (#2) (1,995,602) (MWC:#14, IDRL:#13, AIRPLAY:#12)
Miley Cyrus was also a feel-good story of 2006, but in 2007 she was taken VERY seriously with her first single. See You Again took it to #2 on the countdown, topped the airplay chart once, but the major story is that she was up and down for a latter part of her run, but with pop radio picking up on it we could see Miley having a big 2008. She takes the #12 song of the year.
11. Paramore - Misery Business (1@1) (2,000,000) (MWC:#9, IDRL:#11, AIRPLAY:#11)
Paramore is back at #11 with Misery Business. Unlike Crushcrushcrush, this song didn't dominate but the main difference is that this was on twice as long as Crushx3. This topped both airplay and MWC once, but was the springboard to their success. They did very well in 2007 finishing up with 8 times on top for both CCC and MB and 2008 could be even sweeter! 2007 MWC Band Of The Year!
