Last year I thought these guys would make it big but somehow they ended up becoming another one hit wonder. This song was their latest attempt to recreate the success they had with the ever-so-catchy Classic. Not bad for a midtempo ballad to be honest.
Katy Perry "This Is How We Do"
The only reason this song is even here is because of guilty pleasure value. Katy's whole career is a giant mass of generic bubblegum radio candy and she knows it. For what it's worth I think the video is quite good, if only they would use that budget for her music quality...
Train "Angel In Blue Jeans"
Somehow Train got lost in the mix this year. This song was meant to go with the indie/alternative formula that used to be popular back in 2012/2013 but for 2014 it felt a little dated. I still think it's a decent song but it honestly doesn't sound like a hit.
Maroon 5 "Maps"
For the longest time I hated this song but I recently realized that it's not because of the song itself but because Maroon 5 has become an overrated money hungry mess. It's like they live to collect hits and Adam Levine tries so hard to jump out of the page.
New Politics "Everywhere I Go (Kings and Queens)"
Early this year I listened to the debut album by this band and I was delighted, in fact it's one of the best albums I found this year. This song was meant to be their comeback but I think it kinda fell short, it doesn't really go anywhere.
Disclosure feat. Sam Smith "Latch"
Most of the times I played this song it was the acoustic solo version but for this countdown I'm using the EDM one. Who would've thought Sam's voice would fit so well in the EDM genre? But I hope he's over it cause he's so well above it now.
American Authors "Believer"
Second appearance by this band. This song was supposed to be the follow-up to BDOML but it did quite the opposite. It's not a bad song in fact it's quite catchy but it surely added nothing and the video was so cheap.
Kings of Leon "Beautiful War"
Back in 2008-2009 I used to hate this band. You can't really blame me, the voice of the vocalist used to sound like nails on a chalkboard and their songs were overrated to the high heavens. This song was a nice surprise this year, I love the lyrics.
Kiesza "Giant in My Heart"
This girl is like a mini Bjork in many aspects. Her songs and videos might look cheap and simple but they're in fact very ambitious and original. On top of that she has a great voice so she's the whole package. This one is so catchy, not better than Hideaway though.
Beyoncé "Partition"
I still disagree with the fact that this song was released as a single. It's not a bad song in fact the production is flawless, but this ratchet sexed-up version of Beyoncé is not my favorite. I loved the sexy french vocals though.
Thanks for your comments.

Aww I saw the recap and saw that Luke has been indeed featured on this countdown (in the form of TIHWR), but your word was regarding Play It Again so I hope it will come
I agree that thew verses in TIHWR are...erm...trashy. except Luke's of course (his vocals saved the song for me tbh)
