It was fresh as hell in 2008, that's why it blew up. That opening synth riff was like WOAH at the time, because of that song almost every pop song afterwards copied that style and now it sounds generic as hell.

No my first impression was definitely that it was a boring and generic dance pop song. I was gobsmacked when it started smashing later that year.

To be fair, while that sound was v. dated in Europe at that point, euro-pop didn't really break the states until Gaga. It was fresh to uncultured Americans.
My first impression of Just Dance was that it was bottom-of-the-barrel generic as well. I actively took a stand against Gaga without knowing anything about her because that song seemed like such manufactured garbage. It actually wasn't until well after TFM was released that I really began to love it.
