What a stupid and ignorant logic.

Nicole has a point though. The producers are relatively unknown (DJ White Shadow IS unknown) and the gay lyrics weren't playing it safe at all. In mainstream literature, gay and lesbian themes are ALMOST ALWAYS described in metaphors and symbolism. Very rarely, if ever, are they as blunt as how Born This Way states them. It was risky in that sense. The lyrics are cheesy and the whole love yourself theme is generic and safe, but she made the song risky in it's own right. I'm tired of people disregarding the gay bit because that was indeed taking a risk.

But she's been moving in this direction for at least a year now, as Newt said. It would've been a risk for Britney.

BTW is very universal, it reaches everyone just like Fireworks does. And it does it more plainly for everyone, even the slow to understand

Why does it have to be a risk for a certain artist. We are talking about risks in general right?

Moot point, doesn't change the fact that she penned the song before everyone jumped on the bandwagon.

And the records and sales are there to prove that.

It makes perfect sense. We don't know for certain that GaGa wrote the song before all the suicides since until just a month ago, we only heard four lines of it. And it was released after all those other songs, so no matter how you look at it, she was jumping on the bandwagon last.

Pretty sure Katy was talking about "Firework" long before the suicides.

Eli, that still doesn't equate to lyrics that explicitly mention gay, transgendered, and lesbian individuals. In a mainstream song, that's huge. Homosexuality in the mainstream is controversial, even though it shouldn't be.
Half or over half of this country does not support gay marriage. You can't tell me that there isn't a stigma attached to homosexuality in any way that is presented in public life. Do you remember the backlash that Adam Lambert got for one of his performances that was overtly homo-erotic?
And yes, I'm talking local. Europe is a different story IMO.

It attempts to, but the sincerity isn't there. I'm sure her intentions were good, but it came out like a vanity project.
But I'm sure you'd be quick to understand that.

Those 4 lines still contained stuff from the song that would count as inspiration, and yet again she did it before the other girls. You can try again

When you fashion your image around being a gay-loving, God-fearing, "free bitch," is a song like "Born This Way" really out of the ordinary?
I mean, seriously, is it a risk at all if the song immediately topped 20+ global iTunes charts and broke radio records? How can you guys say that with a straight face? (No pun intended.) It's pure brand-building.

Those are due to Gaga's hype, darling. We'll see if it sustains the same longevity as Firework (still Top 10).

Now that is subjective. Let's keep it at the facts level
"No matter gay, straight, or bi, lesbian, trans-gendered life"
Seems pretty universal to me

I just don't think it's that controversial. People who hate gays don't listen to Lady GaGa anyway. People who don't care still didn't care when they heard those lyrics.

They are not the same.
That uncomfortable feeling you get listening to "Born This Way" with your father.... this is Born This Way.
