Point made.

It's not that simple, guys.
Beyoncé, like Gwen Stefani wasn't submitted to Best New Artist because they had both been nominated - and in Bey's case, won - for songwriting.
That's why Lauryn was able to be nominated - she never won for songwriting. Neither did Marsha Ambrosius, which leads me to believe she's in this year.

Keri was all over pop radio, even if her sales weren't there. Zac Brown Band won simply because they were conservative, played instruments and had the Country bloc voting for them.
And when does the Grammys EVER go with the artists that made the most impact? I think Carrie Underwood was the last artist to truly win when she was the most popular artists out of the bunch or at least had equal impact to other nominees that year. Nicki, no matter how much impact she has made, will probably lose out on Best New Artist. Mark my words. As someone stated, Hip Hop is the outcast in the general field. There is NO one frontrunner here.

They had the biggest album of all five artists. They was conservatism in play, but it played hand in hand with sales. Tings Tings and SP were out of it, and MGMT was a year too late. Most females who win BNA have either huge or unique voices; Keri has neither.

Damn that's too bad otherwise Bey would've won this hands down.

It's huge and unique. Let's leave the potential flamebait out of this thread, eh?

Well, this certainly helps my case with Nicki.
I say, watch out for Foster The People for BNA. Their album just came out, they are just finding success and will be on voters' minds, etc., especially if they get SNL and VMA slots. "If I Die Young" and "You Lie" may be reasons for The Band Perry to scoop up votes, though.

I'd rather have FTP win. I don't see the big deal about The Band Perry...at all.

Funny thing is, I used Jody Watley as an example as to why Keri could have won two years ago.
No, just, no. Find me a recent example of someone like Nicki winning. If she wins, then Kanye's loss looks even more like a joke. Same with 50 Cent.
Oh, and Marsha has been nominated for songwriting. Shouldn't a nomination disqualify her from the race? or is it just a win?

If that's the case, then she is disqualified.
But I think Far Away has a chance in Song. More on that in my Song post.

I didn't have an issue with their win, tbh. I knew 50 Cent would lose anyway.

I hope you're right about "Far Away" in SOTY. I can't ever predict SOTY.

Yes, this is their second album, haven't been submitted more than three times (I don't think they have ever submitted), haven't been nominated for any Grammys and this is the album that helped them gain their public identity. They are most definitely eligible... as eligible as Jonas Brothers three years ago and Esperanza Spalding last year.

Thanks, Cap10. Contenders for Best New Artist? I would say:
*Bon Iver (I want them to win both AOTY and BNA)
*Nicki Minaj (I guess she can be submitted here, since she only got 1 nomination out of 37 submissions and it would be her second (?) shot)
*Foster The People
Other options?

I think The Band Perry is a lock for a BNA nomination.

In this case, I think Bon Iver, Nicky Minaj, Foster The People and The Band Perry are set on stone (I have seen them on many predictions). Those plus [insert under-the-radar artist here]. I have seen Wiz Khalifa, but I doubt NARAS will nominate two hip-hop acts this year.

wouldn't the NARAS consider the fact that nicki brought a whole sub-category back in music...she breathed life into female rappers

She and like Kreayshawn (who is still opened to debate) are the only female rappers at the moment. Not really bringing anything back, eh? Unless there's an abundance of female rappers having major success, I doubt it would matter to voters. Besides, female rappers aren't that loved by NARAS, unless you're Missy Elliott.

Don't forget Lauryn starting the trend of most Grammys (5) won in a night for a female artist.
I also think Nicki could grab a Grammy if Kanye submits Monster for Rap/Sung cuz atm I don't see any other huge contenders takin it home.
