I watched Horseline's Behind the Music special from 2000 the other day and holy ****, she was so huge and had zero disadvantages. There was absolutely no sad part in it when her album sales slowed down, no bad controversies that tarnished her image, no horrible deaths in her family, no major breakups, nothing.

Yeah that's cool, but now you can choose the music you want to listen to. I'm talking about the exposure, radio, the media and a variety of artists from different genres making great music and showing their craft to the world. There is definitely no media coaching these days. I think there was up until about the late 2000s (you can really see this when you look at Miley Cyrus's transformation) and then once the 2010s hit, it was like every new artist was just acting as candid, frank, occasionally crude, as can be. A lot of these viner boys sound soooo dumb.

She's hasn't had a single scandal in her whole 25-year singing career. Not one. And her last album that only came out like two years ago still sold 2M despite having no hits and little promotion, not to mention that her Vegas residency is still selling out show after show despite it starting like 13 years ago. Poor our faves.

And the saddest Behind the Music special was definitely Fantasia's. I felt like I was watching a LifeTime movie.

It's not just you. Real alternative (not neutered crap like Foster the People and The Lumineers) has no voice in the mainstream anymore. Where is this generation's Nirvana? REM? Smashing Pumpkins? Radiohead?

It's like hip hop and EDM erased alt rock from the mainstream. Popular culture and youth culture has suffered so much as a result.
