Hey kinda important question!
I'm about to apply to my schools, but can I send my test scores after I submit the common app? I have no money to pay for the rest of my ACT scores to be sent so I have to wait for a couple weeks to get money to fund the rest of sending my scores. Is that ok or will that not be possible?
I know they will take up to the January test dates but collegeconfidential is saying they have to be submitted with the app. If that's true, I'l going to have to drop some schools to fund sending scores instead.
I really wish admissions officers read this and try to match the applicants and the very public data they shared (stuff that easily narrows down like test scores and precise EC's) and reject them.
That's what I'd do. People like that are not good enough to go to a rigorous top uni.
Everybody there is so show-offy and then when someone comes along who is better, they try to discredit them.
That is true. "I got a 2310 SAT, should I retake it?!?!!!!"
Some classmates who applied EA are getting their acceptance letters, while I've still not applied anywhere. Ugh if only I've taken the SAT more than once.
I tried, but I don't meet any of those requirements and my counselor wouldn't write a recommendation for the fee waivers. It sucks you have to fund your own college apps without any help from my parents.
In other news, I'm applied everywhere except U of Mich and U of Penn (which I'm still deciding on if I'm applying there or just saving the money).
Have any of you guys filled out your FASFA things yet?
It's pointless to do it now when my parents don't file their taxes till April like the rest of everybody else I think :/
I filled mine out yesterday with my parents' 2014 data. And yeah, how exactly are we supposed to use our 2015 data if it doesn't come out until April? These financial aid things are due in Feb/March.
Question - is $7000 for a year tuition (not including books, living costs, ect) good or bad for a university??
Yeah that's kinda fantastic. I'm paying about 4k a semester with everything included. Even if you end up paying around 11-14k a year, compared to a lot of schools you're in a great price range.
I know that college decisions are trickling in, and that it's a really stressful time for a lot of folks. Most of my facebook friends are other people within the super elite private school circle of New York, so I also know what it's like to be surrounded by people getting into Yale and Harvard and Cornell. I know how daunting this may be. But I wanna give a friendly reminder to people that jokes like "BMCC Class of 2020!" are not funny, they're pretty distasteful, particularly coming from folks in very privileged private institutions. That may be a joke to you, but for a LOT of people, it's a reality. Not because they didn't want to or couldn't have gotten into the Penns and Columbias and NYUs of the world, but because those institutions are simply not accessible to them. Those jokes are extremely elitist, especially coming from people who are blessed enough to have attended an elite private high school. I know the inclination to make those jokes, though, because I myself used to make them. But there's nothing funny about an education system in which we are all clawing and fighting for a decent education, and low income folks (esp. of color) draw the short end of that stick.
Friendly reminder that a good education is not a right afforded to everyone, it's a privilege afforded to a few, and that's not a funny joke.

I considered transferring because my school irritates me, but then I realized I hate higher education in general so I might as well deal with what I got, get my piece of paper so I can get the job I want.
also i'm on scholarship to my school and I can't afford to pay full price...soo...
You guys do way too much on CC yeah the chance threads can be cringey but it's an amazing resource. I found it so nice to have other people to talk with about my college choices and test scores when no one else in my school was trying to go anywhere special or aim for near-perfect scores.
