DRL News for the weekend of 12/27-12/29

DRL Awards Successful
The DRL Awards of 2002 went well for the newcomers. Here's an overview:

Ashanti is the big winner this year winning 7 trophies including the coveted Artist Of The Year along with best R&B/Hip-Hop Album, Album of the year, Best New R&B Act, Best New Artist, Best Female Soloist & R&B Song of the year for Foolish.

The Vines got the second highest amount of wins by snatching 4 awards for Best Foriegn Act, Best Aussie Act, Best Rock Album for "Highly Evolved" & Breakthrough Artist of 2002.

Avril Lavigne came in 3rd with 3 trophies and expected to win at least 6 of these. She won for Best Teenage Act, Best AC Album for Let Go & Viewer's Choice.

Vanessa Carlton won for Best AC Act & Best New AC Act as she earned 2 this year.

Mandy Moore accepted the awards for OTL. This won Best Collaboration & Best Live Performance(at Alcatraz). On The Line wasn't really a flop thanks to its 2 DRL trophies.

Amerie wins 2 awards for Best Non-Single award for the song I Just Died and R&B artist of the year.

Amy Studt got 2 awards and had a brilliant year by winning for Best Euro Act & Best New Rock Act.

Shania Twain won 2 more awards for Best Country Act & Best Country Album once again. This is her 7th win for Best Country Act & 4th win for Best Country Album.

3LW wins 2 more DRL trophies increasing their collection to 5. They win Best Pop Album of 2002 with "A Girl Can Mack" and retained Female Group Of The Year.

Jennifer Lopez wins Remix Of The Year again, this time with "I'm Gonna Be Alright".

Chevelle won for Best Male Group.

Dream retained Song Of The Year with "When I Get There" after winning the award with "He Loves U Not" in 2001.

Fallen angel Aaliyah won Best RIP singer for the 2nd year in a row.

WJ01 won best Fantasy Billboard Represenative thanks to his FB hit "And The Storm Rages On". City High accepted the award on his behalf.

Queens Of The Stone Age won Best Rock Act.

Ja Rule won Best Rap Act for the 3rd consecutive year.

Jay-Z won Best Rap Song for Bonnie & Clyde.

3 Doors Down won Best Rock Song for "When I'm Gone".

Ms. Jade took home Best New Rap Act thanks to "Ching Ching".

Cyndi Thompson won Best New Country Act thanks to her hits.

Christina Aguilera won the Comeback Of The Year award with "Stripped".

In a bit of a surprise, Soluna won Best New Group.

Slipknot received an award not to be remembered:Worst Song Of 2002 for Heretic Anthem.

Eminem had a lot of hype but DRL didn't respect his return by failing to win either of the 2 awards he was up for. Don't fret, he still has a grand total of 6.

Kylie Minogue also got shut down hard. Losing to the Vines caused her to panic as she gets shut out for the 6th year in a row. She only has a grand total of 2 awards which were for Best Song & Best Dance Joint in 1996.

Styles, Smilez & Southstar, Tweet, 12 Stones, Our Lady Peace, Finch, Eden's Crush, Nivea, Res, Brandy, Lindsay Pagano, Isyss, Jade Anderson & TG4 were others that got hosed.
