RuPaul's new album had snippets when it was on pre-order. Adore Delano's did too and a band I like called Molotov Jukebox does. A lot of more B-C list or lower musicians still put snippets up. I haven't seen them on iTunes for a more major artist in a while though.
Here´s how leaks affect sales: in the past, there was a lead single, or maybe 2 singles, and if you liked those enough, you would buy the album. Whether the rest of it was your cup of tea or not, it didn't matter. The purchase was already made. NOW, when there´s a leak, it gives people the change to hear it for free, AND THEN decide if they want the full thing or not. I mention a leak, because it usually happens before the release date. But then, Spotify basically does the same by allowing free users to listen to a whole album before even purchasing it. The only minimal difference is that in Spotify, the act of streaming the album, actually does help it by giving it streaming points for the new Hot 200 Albums. Anyhow, this method of comsumption, and leaks too, have hurt the album sales because the purchaser is given the chance to decide if they like the whole thing or not. In the past it was not like that, it was more direct, upfront, and convenient for artists.
When will you people shush about leaks affecting sales. Big whoop you act like she's going to slay the charts. Also people will buy it if they want to. They won't if they don't.
